I would argue now is the perfect time to jump in if you've been without a PS3 all these years. Hardware is relatively cheap, there is a huge library of quality (and cheap) games readily available, and you still have time to get plenty of use out of the system before the PS4 and neXbox come out to potentially give you buyer's remorse for buying "last gen" hardware. (Right now, old as it is, the PS3 is still a current gen console.)

The thing is, if you haven't bought a PS3 by now, you probably aren't an early adopter, so you probably wouldn't even contemplate buying a PS4 until five years into its life cycle anyway, after that platform has matured and built up a collection of solid titles. If you don't need to have cutting edge hardware and don't mind waiting, you'd might as well make your patience pay off by buying in late and taking advantage of the cheaper hardware and cheaper and more plentiful games.
