It is responsive with some caveats. Maybe its because I'm used to my 256GB desktop solid state drive now, but I find that apps load a bit slow on the RT tablets. Atom tablets will always be more expesive. Microsoft practically give RT away while charging license fee for full windows. Microsoft earns money when you buy software from windows store. Like iOS and most andriod software, you can only install software on RT from windows store.

Thanks! I currently have a Chromebook just to bring to class to take notes and it's been working fine. Just wanted a tablet just for fun, but I also look for one that'll last me awhile in terms of performance when technology advances.

There is a default PDF application for RT, but I'm not sure what its editing capabilities are. However, it sounds like you may need pen input capability. I'm not sure if any of the RT tablets support pen, I know this one doesn't and neither does the Surface RT. The Surface Pro and some other W8 tablets certainly do however. But those may be out of the price range you are looking for.

That's exactly what my wife uses my Surface RT for. Aside from the excellent IE10 browser, there are some great recipe apps for RT.

It's been a while since I'm following up with the tablet trends, so sorry for the dumb question.
Can I root a RT tablet and put in Android?

I have a Surface Pro and to be honest you're probably going to end up using IE anyway. Chrome is way less polished for a device with a touchscreen than IE is. Things like zooming in for example - under IE you pinch to zoom. On Chrome you have to click the three lines in the corner, then click a little + next to Zoom. If you double tap text in IE it zooms to fit the text to the screen. If you double tap in Chrome it just highlights the text for copy/paste. I've gone back to using IE which I haven't done in years on any other machine of mine.

So, if I'm looking to get a tablet for Splashtop Remote + eReader + Web Browser + Media viewing + Emulating games.... this is not for me, right?
