Has anyone else bought these tool sets? Any idea how good they are? I know Craftsman products are typically ok to good, but just curious. Also, what's the quality of the carrying case?

all those who decided NOT to buy this because it was made in China (or any non-USA location)...

I hope you (1) return the smartphone you're using, (2) return that TV you're watching, (3) return that game console you play, (4) return that computer you bought, (5) check your shoes?, (6) check most of your shirts?, (7) often your gasoline is sometimes imported, (8) even if your car is Chevy, Ford, Dodge - umm, please check that it was built in USA, and if it was USA, please check all parts in that car.

I have USA pride too - but if we don't fix ourselves (ie. thinking we deserve $80/hour to make tools) then most things are going to come from overseas.

What do we expect for $60? Most homeowners will do just fine with this set. Sears knows that, otherwise they wouldn't be giving the Craftsman warranties. Pros will want top toughness like Snap On so they don't have to spend time getting replacements.

this deal is $3 more than the Craftsman Club Saver Days so it's a good deal if you missed it. with regards to the set itself - spending the extra $12 to have gotten the 154pc mechanics set was the better way to go. again if you missed out and need a set quickly, the one from this deal will be sufficient for probably 75% of people.

as others have noted, the Craftsman Univeral sets are made in China where as the 154pc set is made in the USA. to some this is important, to others not so much. whether country of origin has anything to do with it or not, i have noticed some substantial imperfections on nearly ALL Craftsman tools with the black oxide coating. is it a coincidence that these are the tools made in China? not sure. for some reason they haven't been able to perfect the process to prevent pits. i wish i took a pic of the last Universal set i bought before i returned it, but the wrenches had pits all over them where the black oxide coating was either chipped off or never applied properly.

so yeah, proceed at your own risk. you might want to inspect them before you leave the store.
