You caught me in an understatement. I kind of see it like you - I'd like to see how this piece of equipment performs because a whole lot of the kind of stuff I like to buy is sold under that brand at very reasonable prices. If they can match Harbor Freight, I won't have to pay sales tax or drive 20 miles to get it.

I'm in the market for an inexpensive air compressor, but most of the cheap ones I've read up on blow fuses which can sometimes be a PITA to replace.

Sometimes you just have to roll the dice. If I already had an air-compressor, that Campbell Hausfeld inflator that Amazon had at $11 for a while today would have been perfect.

But the main intended use for this one for me is to keep the tires inflated on a hand truck. If it works on my automobile tires, so much the better. If it doesn't work at all, it's just an $18 consumer lesson; I've had a lot costlier ones as that goes...

Ugh. It arrived today. They sent me one that had obviously been sold and returned; blister pack was nearly destroyed; power switch was loose and, predictably, device was DOA.

I knew I was gambling, but I wasn't prepared for the customer service experience that followed.

I RMA'd via the website and they sent an E-mail telling me essentially I would have to pay return shipping to get $9 of the $18 I sent them refunded. I sent an E-mail explaining they appeared to not have even sent me a new item and asked them if they would just send me another one. They sent an E-mail telling me to call a number to talk to customer service. The phone rang five times, and picked up to a recording that nobody was there to take the call. Goodbye. Click. I sent an E-mail telling them this. The response was that customer service would contact me directly. Ten minutes later I got the same E-mail I received right after completing the RMA form.

I hope nobody bought one of these based on my original post, and be forewarned about ordering anything from Directron. I first bought from them a SD for an 8GB TDK USB stick. They oversold it and canceled my order, but offered to send me a generic 4GB stick, no charge. It arrived six weeks later $1.30 postage due. I hadn't received anything postage due in over 30 years.

Directron seem to struggle getting or keeping their act together. For me anyway, it was two opportunities, two fails.
