very true...i tried to do this but even after purchasing most of my items from microcenter and getting a cheapo 6450 GPU for the time being (and a clearanced one at that) i couldn't bring the price down to <1000 when i added my monitor....plus this was with an fx-8350 and after accounting for all rebates...damn...

It claims you can. Click on the Video Card button in the Adjust Performance tab, and it shows the features. Little graphical thingies says it has DVI, HDMI, and can do dual monitors. (On the left, under the Radeon Graphics logo)

"I can build it cheaper!" has no place in these system threads because it's never about the cost of individual parts that make up a system. Any trained monkeys can put together a system; putting together all the parts that will play nice together and diagnosing it when it doesn't, that's beyond what most people want to spend time on.

most likely. The 5870 used to be a one of the best graphics card. Today, its still very good, just not the best, and pricey. Comparable to amd HD 6870.... May be in some ways better than 6870, but just slightly older (im guessing a year older than 6870? dont quote me on that)
