How did this deal not make front page? It's 3D!

Before you get overly excited and jump on the deal, realize it's a 60Hz set. This has been run into the ground a hundred times before, 120Hz doesn't mean that that MotionPlus/looks like a soap opera crap. 120Hz is a real spec and something that's extremely useful to those who watch a lot of 24fps source material. Additionally, it's a feature you typically want on a 3D TV if you watch a lot of 24fps 3D material, as you'll get halos and bad convergence otherwise (from the tv having to create those additional 6 frames to bring it up to 30fps).

That being said, it's a killer price. Just know the limitations of the tv. Thumbs up.

Thanks for the reply. I was under then impression they human eye only catches about 40 fps max anything over that was just a waste from a human perspective. Would this make it make it impossible to see the difference for The 60-120 Hz?

See, here's where it gets weird until you think about it. Your typical movie is filmed at 24fps, which means if your tv is 60fps, the tv has to find a way to show 24fps in 60fps. If you double each frame, you get 48fps, which still leaves 12 frames unaccounted for. In these cases, the tv has to interpolate the frames. Think of frames as sets of three. Your TV or DVD player will double every frame, but after the third frame it will create a new frame that is squirts between the third frame and the start of the next set of three frames. This frame will be an interpolation of the third frame and the next first frame. This is commonly refered to as 3:2 Pulldown. Basically, it's a neat trick to get 24fps film to display on a 60Hz screen.

With a 120Hz screen, all your tv has to do is display each frame 5 times (in other words, 120 is divisible by 24). By not having to create interpolated data, your movies look as they were intended. This isn't as big of a deal as it used to be with standard films, because DVD/Blu-Ray players are REALLY good at interpolating these days. You'd really have to see it side by side to notice. However, they don't seem to be quite as good at interpolating 3D yet. Possibly the right Blu-Ray player might be good at this, but a lot of the convergence complaints people have with 60Hz tvs seem to disappear with 120Hz tvs.

Can anyone comment on this tv for non 3D purposes. Not that interested in 3D, just looking for a bedroom set.

Agreed!!! This should have been all over FP instantly!!! I don't get it... I have 3 60hz HDTV's and 2 120hz HDTVs. One is also an LED. You know what? Whatever the difference is, I, nor anyone else I show them too can tell any difference except some have better viewing angles. If your going to blow off a $400 46" 3D LED HDTV because of something that CANNOT be observed with the human eye with EXTREME effort, you're just crazy! 60hz is "supposed" to have bad ghosting on 1080p video games and such... Well I have tried very hard and have NEVER seen this "ghosting" effect on any TV made in the past 8 years! I think people are getting WAY to picky about these specs and marketing gimmicks... This should be FP if I've EVER seen a FP deal!
