In for one. Replaces my 10 year old Onkyo (don't remember model but 5.1 with zone2 capability) which went dead last month. I need only 5.1, but no harm having a 7.1

Usually Denon Refurbs sells out quickly.
These are much better than Onkyo. If you search for Onkyo and HDMI, you can see thousands of posts compare to 1-2 for Denon. I got Initially I used to have Onkyo 706. HDMI stopped working after 2 years. Later Tried the pioneer and it died in 1 day. You can also Google for Pioneer and dead to see problems about them). Now I got Denon 4065 from Costco and there is a huge difference in the sound quality now (got Focal Sib and cub 5.1 with pair of Focal 706v as front speakers). Android and iOS UI is wonderful too. Lesson: Next time when you see a Denon Refurb from Denon, just buy and think later. |

Plug that sucker into the switched outlet (if you have one) or a smartstrip and screw it onto your entertainment center back and out of sight blowing or pulling air over the top of the AVR. I've used this same setup for years and it keeps my AVR's running nice and cool. Use a low enough power wall wart and the fan is very quiet. Smartstrip is needed more and more now because most AVR's have dropped switched outlets. This is not generally necessary as most AVRs run fairly cool. But it will make the hot ones last longer, and is cheap insurance on cool ones. And a fan like this will keep a Denon running cool even if there is only an inch or so of open space. Have never had a Denon/Marantz/Yamaha fail on me, and they've all been refurb or open box units. But I think in general AVR's are getting more complex and the big brands are all dropping quality each year. Having said that, I have used Denon service after buying known-to-be flawed open box units with no trouble at all. You get fast turnaround if you send them into the big repair centers. Can be really slow going to a small local shop that needs diagnose and order parts. If you have a problem with a Denon/Marantz, I'd suggest getting a RMA and sending it in. I'd hope so, seeing as how it's twice the price and all. Not exactly apples to apples, either... the 809 is more similar to the 2113 than the 1913, anyways. Denon did start getting rid of a lot of the non-HDMI inputs, which is annoying to people with older stuff, I'm sure.... but as far as sound quality, I KNOW I'm getting something good with a denon, and I've heard some Onkyos that were good and some that were so-so... so I'd need to listen at a store before I ordered. With a Denon, I just look at the feature list and order, and know what I'm going to get. The 1913 was in stock this morning when I got to work. Went to order one an hour later and it was gone, sadly. I'll keep checking back for the next day or so. Maybe I'll get lucky. |

I ordered then had buyers remorse and canceled my order. Going to wait for a deal with 4k pass thru. I think there were some Yamaha amps earlier selling for around $300 with 4k pass-thru. How are those amps compared to denon. I am def staying away from onkyo after having the HDMI issue.
