I just ordered by phone to get it for 309, no tax and free shipping- sounds pretty good per Consumers Reports evaluation.

Ordered over the phone. The guy didn't seem to know how to add the Sony Movie Studio Platinum 12....not surprised. Wasn't going to use it anyways.

Any thoughts on this camcorder?

Haven't received the camera yet so can't say much except share what I found in my research prior to buying it.

It has the Canon HD CMS PRO sensor that is found on the $1,000 Canon Vixia G10. The Canon HD CMOS PRO seems to operate better in low light/indoors than higher megapixel sensors. the M500 also has a half-decent battery, about 1hr+ of use time, versus the Canon Vixia R300 w/ like 30 min of battery time.

Downsides are from that same HD CMOS PRO sensor. 2.17 megapixel stills, if you planned on using a video camera for stills. And only 10x zoom.

I picked up an M500 when it was on sale at Amazon (for a day) for $249. I used to have the M300, for reference, but it wasn't very good in low light. So far, this one is much better. The primary downside to this one is the relatively poor focal range (starts a little close at ~40mm equiv and only 10x zoom). Personally I'm not a fan of touch screen controls either, but that seems to be the norm recently. Also you can't power this one directly from the wall -- no A/C jack. You remove the battery and place it in the charger.

Edit: btw the difference between this model and the M50-52 is this one doesn't have any onboard memory, nor does it have WiFi.

Sadly I did but I read that it was a price mistake that amazon was nice enough to honor. I just tried to get Amazon to price adjust but was a no go due to their stance on not matching external retailers. Hopefully they lower there price so I can get 30 back.
