No jail time for aide convicted in drunken hit and run death For the family of Courtney Griffin, whose hit and run killer, Gabrielle Nestande, 25, was just convicted of “intoxicated manslaughter” and “failing to render aid” yet walked away with the “wrist slap” of 10 years suspended with no jail time, there is no justice for their loved one’s death. None at all. This is outrageous. This woman gets drunk and kills another person but doesn't have to see the inside of a cell? Meanwhile somebody gets caught with a bag of marijuana and doesn't see daylight for 5 years. How is "the system" allowed to be this broken? |

If I appear to be ignoring your posts, it's probably because you are on my ignore list.

Be upset at legislatures allowing such sentencing for drug laws (and drug laws in general) rather then advocating a system is broken when two events don't end in results you wish. GZ Case:

Seriously, though, maybe their thinking is that she made a bad mistake one time. I think that a ten year suspended sentence means that if she commits another crime any time in the next ten years, she spends ten years in jail automatically. To me, though, she should be in jail because she didn't help her victim. I can forgive the accident, but not the deliberate act. |

DUI should have MUCH more severe penalties than it does - any manner of intoxication. You can essentially buy your way out of 3-4 DUI's - I know a 20 something that just had his 4th and finally served time/license suspension for it. That's 4 times too many.

Do you think 10 years probation would have been ok if she would have stayed and helped.. Even if the person died?
Just about everyone person who drinks have been "drunk" at the wheel. Last edited by Mr.Ritz; 02-27-2013 at 01:35 PM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

I work with people that reminisce about the "old days" when the town cop (who knew you/your family) would just make you leave your car and take you home to sleep it off! Helping the person has nothing to do with my argument. Drunk driving/DUI/etc should have immediate irrevocable mandatory penalties including jail time and making life VERY DIFFICULT for a period of time by license suspension. Someone that does not have their full faculties is driving a 2000-4000lb missile at high speeds! It is absolutely unconscionable that anyone would think that such a person would get off with a "warning" or simple fine. |
