Up until now the crippling issue with the Touchpad was the graphics driver, Freedreno has recently been able to do 3D hardware acceleration. Its only a matter of time until it gets pushed mainstream, for now you can check the xda forums: http://forum.xda-developers.com/s...?t=2146089 The OP actually is running a Windows X86 program through Wine x86 and qemu, all through the touchpad! |

I'm honestly not sure what you mean by running an oversized screen in your comment. I think you're alluding to the iPad's screen resolution, as the diagonal screen size is exactly the same as this tablet. I'm not sure you'd wish to open yourself up to being called an idiot, though, by making such a simple mistake. Also, I think you meant to say "God, people are idiots." Maybe I'm wrong, and you're using "God" as an adjective. If so, my mistake. I thought I'd point these things out, though, as you probably don't want people mistaking your superior intellect when they read your internet comments. |

As far as mobile processing, I meant ARM. I couldn't think of the term at the time. Atoms are not exactly "slow" as you say. I had a netbook running an Atom N450 on 2gb RAM with a 4GB Class 10 SD card for ReadyBoost on my Win7 partition. It ran pretty well, considering that was even one of the earlier models of the Atom. I used it for school, as well as managing my network at work and it never held me back. Even have the Ubuntu Netbook remix installed on it. It runs very fast on that hardware. Trying to say that this newer Atom can't handle running on a 1024x768 tablet just doesn't make sense. It's no i5, but it will definitely handle any basic task better than an ARM. Not to mention being able to use real software. The internet is bigger than all those app stores combined. The 899.99 MSRP is obviously BS since the Surface Pro starts at that price, but at the 399.99 deal it's definitely a good entry level Windows 8 tablet. While this wouldn't work for me, (I opted for a 128gb Surface Pro instead) I can easily see how this could be a student's best friend. Hell I wish I had something like this when I was in school. So yes, I say that people are idiots because they blindly ignore all the benefits something like this can provide. |
