I just saw on Southwest Airline's site that the 50K Chase Premier credit card offer is back. There is a $99 annual fee that is not waived, but the 50K points are worth about $833 and they're good towards the very valuable companion pass (110K points needed in a year).

You should be able to get this card if you had the Plus card ($69 annual fee) before as they're considered different products.

Do the points earned from credit card spending transfer to your SW points balance once a month?

Just got my business Plus card today in the mail. Was able to successfully convert it to a Premier card through the phone without closing my account. One phone rep previously said I had to wait six months to do so. Guess you can't always go by what one rep says.

Yes. Right after each Statement date. (usually within 24 hours.)

Is there a way to find out which card I had before? It was 69$, but that was a couple years back... I just want to make sure, fully, before I jump on the offer.

It's a free pass for someone to fly with you whenever you book a flight or use your points to book a flight. You need 110,000 points to obtain the pass for the current year + the next calendar year. Saves you alot of money/points over that amount of time if you travel with southwest...
but bonus points do not qualify for companion pass.. right ?

They actually "do". If you were to ask Southwest about it, they would most likely tell you they do not. But, there are thousands of people, like myself, that can tell you that the Visa Bonus points have counted for companion pass.

I am confused and I have read many posts in this thread....

My wife and I are looking for a rewards card....is it better for

A) Me to just get the card, and if that is the case can my wife and I both use the miles? Or will I be the only authorized user of the reward points?

B) Both of us get the card, that way there is no issue

C) Any other suggestions for a married couple looking into getting a rewards card?

Thanks

The link is in the OP. Just scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Learn More (or whatever the link says) under the business card blurb. It will take you to the correct application.

It depends how many points you want now. If you want 100K for the companion pass I would suggest one of you get personal & business card. In 2015, the other one can get the personal & business for a new companion pass.

A) yes, one of you will be authorized user, but either of you can travel on the points if the authorized user books it. Rapid rewards accounts are not joint but that doesn't mean you can't share logon/password info.

B) Sure, but you will each have your own separate account with points. The beauty of this deal is the companion pass. No need to have 2 companion passes for husband and wife only. The person who will be the companion will never have to book their own ticket when traveling with the other, thus it's better to stack points in 1 account (unless you just want to get the max points you can get now)

C) If you share the login and password with either other, you'll both be able to use the points online but I would have the person who does the bulk of the reservations and/or traveling to be the primary.

hi SDers,

I have a SW rapid rewards card and have almost 50K in points right now.
I do not own a business, but fly SW quite often for work.

Would the best 'bang for my buck' be the Premier Personal card?
I dont want to get multiple cards, etc. but do want to get the 50K points getting me to the Companion Pass level.

Thanks!

you got all 50K points in 2013? Just want to call out all 110K have to be earned in 1 calendar year.

probably oversimplified, but it comes down to are the extra bonus points and no service charges for foreign purchases worth it to you for the extra annual fee.

For me, I went with the cheapest card, as I will probably cancel before having to pay the annual fee next year. I prefer the SPG AMEX as my go to card. I can always sign up again in the future for more SW bonus points if I need them.

brimorga - yes, all points this year. I get to fly business and the double point bonus right now is adding up quick. Flying again tomorrow so i'll be at 60K probably.

After thinking about it, ill never use the foreign purchase service charge waiver, so i'll probably just go with the standard personal card as well. Each one gives you the 50K bonus when you spend $2000, so why not go with the lower annual fee! Thanks!

sorry if this is posted before but i am really confused on,..... plus vs premier....personal vs business...

i know a lot of ppl are doing personal and business to get the 100k points
and the original post says you can do plus and premier to get the 100k points also

so my question is.... can personal plus and personal premier get the 100k points? or does it have to be personal plus and business premier?
