I just saw on Southwest Airline's site that the 50K Chase Premier credit card offer is back. There is a $99 annual fee that is not waived, but the 50K points are worth about $833 and they're good towards the very valuable companion pass (110K points needed in a year).

You should be able to get this card if you had the Plus card ($69 annual fee) before as they're considered different products.

2 of these and $10k in spending can mean 110k points and a companion pass to fly free with you until 12/31/2014!
Don't think these bonus points will count for that.

"Purchased points and points earned from program enrollment, Tier bonuses, flight bonuses, and Partner bonuses do not count toward Companion Pass status."

These points are the primary reason many of us have or about to have companion passes. These bonus points are confirmed to count towards the status upgrades. Check the flyertalk forums for more info as well.

I have this card and have flown from LAS-SFO three times round trip and once from LAS-MDW (Chicago-Midway) once round trip and still have points left over. This is definitely not a perpetual promotion. Southwest usually only gives out 1 free flight (25k points) with their regular promotion.

how long to stay once you have to the point to cancel the card?

The 50,000 counts towards tier status? I wonder what good that is for Southwest...considering most people sign up just to get two free flights but likely dont travel frequently

Thanks OP for the head up, instant approved for me Smilie

I and my wife applied for the plus cards last year and already used all the points. We have a family of 4, travel a few times a year, so can't have enough points Smilie.
I asked my intermediate families to apply for the same card, so that we could buy back the points from them (use their rr account to book airline).

If you use the points wisely (book at the right time), you can get 4 southwest round trip tickets Smilie
Try to use the points for airline instead of amazon gift card (500 vs. 800).

I believe I'm a Visa Rewards Plus member at the moment and considering apply to the premier to get the 50k points.

What are the pitfalls of doing that besides the $99 dollar fee over the $69 dollar fee?

Thanks.

Do the points or companion pass expire?

The conversion rate for points on this program is much more lucrative if you use them to buy flights with Southwest. A point toward a "wanna get away" fare is worth 1.6 cents. To trade for gift cards, a point is worth one cent.

If you fly, you get 60% more for your points using them with SW! Hope that helps someone!

Points do not expire anymore. The companion pass is valid for 1 year from issue.

I believe I had this card before, I used the miles and account was closed about an year ago. Am I still eligible? Usually somewhere in the fine prints most of these type of offers say only first time applicants eligible to receive bonus miles. Is it possible that they charge to annual fee and not give you bonus miles?

Does chase keep track of who is had what type of card? How would they know if is first time applicant or have had this card before especially if it was quite some time ago at least not in last 6 months. They may be able to find history for 6 months to an year but how about if it is is over 1 year? Any expert?

If I currently have the Plus card, can I apply for the Premier card and get the bonus or do I need to cancel the plus card first?

I got this card the last time around. Got my points and still have them. Have to remember to cancel it before annual fee strikes again. I just want to ask anyone who's got this card in the past...May sound like a stupid question...but it doesn't effect the points if I were to cancel the card right? Or do I have to use points before I cancel? My only gripe: this was my first visa signature card. I've noticed 2 for 1 fandango tickets for visa signature customer has disappeared ever since I got this card.

Just to verify, is it $2,000 total in the first 3 months or $2,000 each month for 3 months? I'm assuming the former?

Thanks
