I just saw on Southwest Airline's site that the 50K Chase Premier credit card offer is back. There is a $99 annual fee that is not waived, but the 50K points are worth about $833 and they're good towards the very valuable companion pass (110K points needed in a year).

You should be able to get this card if you had the Plus card ($69 annual fee) before as they're considered different products.

Got my companion pass last year with the personal 50k + business 50k + $10k resell, and have been enjoying traveling for $5 each trip with my wife over the past year so far.

closing/canceling reduces your credit score upto 30 points actually. I just closed my BAC card, and my credit score went down 30 points Frown
Somethings wrong with your financial situation.

I've opened and closed multiple cards before including this one.
I also have a monthly credit score monitoring from experian.

Whenever I opened a new card, credit drops 4~5 points.
When I close it, score remains the same but comes back up after few month.

My credit score is above 780 and I keep one card open forever to build credit and keep my score high. worshipworshipworship

That's fantastic, definitely what I want to do! Who wouldn't want to do that?

What do you mean by $10k resell? Just regular spending?

Thanks for the answers! Do you know if transferred points count towards the companion pass? So if I transfer the 50k points from my fiancee's rewards account to mine to add it to my 50k, would that count as 100k towards the companion pass?
You can not transfer points from one SW account to another.

Does anyone know how long it takes for Southwest RR Status to change?

I got the 50,000 points from the Plus card offer posted in my account, but my status has not changed to A-List yet?
The signup bonuses do not count towards tier statuses. However they do count towards companion pass status.

Does anyone have any tips on meeting the spending requirements other than just using it for everyday "was gonna buy it anyway" purchases?

Check out Amazon Payments and find a trustworthy friend or family member to send $1000 to for 2 months. Spending requirement met! Just don't send the money straight to yourself or they will lock up your account.

I signed up for the personal card in December 2011 and got my 50,000 bonus points (which I still have). If I sign up for the business card now, I will get an additional 50,000 points. However, since my initial 50,000 was earned more than a calendar year ago, they will not count toward the companion pass, correct?

Correct. You will need another 70k this year to get your CP.

Yes under more reward options when cashing in you can convert to Amazon gift cards - 5000 for $50. There are other options too.
I am holding out for the next GC sale when my wife's 50K points can be exchanged for $625 amazon GC. Last time this happened was Dec 2011. They sent 25 $25 cards. Was it boring to enter all those codes ... I was crying all the way to the bank.

Basically, the final 10k points were free, because I bought slick deals (lots of MacBook Airs, retinas, and iMacs) and resold them at a profit. Even with the annual fee I paid a couple days ago for the card, it was almost like I got paid to receive the CP.

Buy computers + upgrade components + sell on CL or ebay (and now Amazon) = Lots of points + profit.

I would never get a rewards credit card with the intention of achieving the required spend by doing normal purchases. I always make it so that the credit card is just a "points earner". I don't really use CC's that much in general, but I get a ton of points from them.

My mom has the plus card with the $69 annual fee. If I understand the posts here it appears that she can get this card in addition to her other card. Would she need to have both cards linked to the same rewards account or does she need to have two separate southwest rewards accounts? Thank you.

Lots of factors to take into account. Simply closing an account will not necessarily lower your score, especially not a 30 point knock. Credit to debit ratio can be affected if you have high balances or if you have few cards with low credit lines. I closed 2 accounts and my score increased slightly.

2 cards with 1 rewards account (they can share as long as the cards are in the same name). but if she got the $69 card last year, those RR points on her account will NOT apply towards the companion flights.
