Not sure that I agree with this statement. Why do you say you need to know the specs of your existing speakers to buy a sub? Almost all setups are crossed over at 80Hz, meaning everything below 80Hz is sent to the sub. The only time that would make any sense is if you are saying his speakers can't go above 80Hz (meaning no sound would come out since it is all sent to the sub)

Your primary speakers have almost nothing to do with your subwoofer choice.

While you are right that the standard LFE cutover is 80Hz, some setups would result in better sound at different cutover frequencies. If you have a theater-in-a-box system and are adding a subwoofer, you might want to cutover at 100Hz due to poor low end on the speakers. The Energy speaker listed here only goes down to 78Hz. If you created a surround system from just these speakers, a safe cutover frequency would be around 85Hz to 90Hz. As long as you get a subwoofer with an adjustable crossover then you should be fine as most inexpensive subwoofers support up to 200Hz.

Aren't most subwoofers rated up to 200Hz? I am pretty sure all of them are rated to at least 120Hz and if you have to have a crossover set to 120Hz you should get better speakers before buying a subwoofer.

As everyone says, ideally, having the matching L/R speakers with the center would be the best sound but the question for me was is it worth the price?

I too bought the Energy RC Micro 5.0 along with Bic F12 subwoofer. I thought the center speaker didn't have enough mid to really enjoy the movies, hence ordered this Veritas Mini to replace the center, and plan to move the RC micro center to the back to complete the 6.1 setup. This is for a small bedroom (11 x 17) and it is for my second home theater (primary home theater has the expensive NHT setup) so my focus was more on the budget than anything (trying to get the best bang for the buck). I've read several post that there was no significant noticeable timbre match issue using different Energy center with RC micro (that may have been with CC-5) but since the room layout, content, and personal taste has all impact to the sound, I won't know until I listen the setup in my room. Worst case is I have to resell the Veritas Mini-C but pretty confident I can get most of the money back.

I bought this Veritas Mini to replace the center in my RC Micro set (5.0 with a Polk PSW505 sub). I am very happy with the purchase and I feel it integrates well into the set. The difference was immediately evident after hooking up and performing a calibration with the receiver to properly balance the channel level. This center provides a much fuller sound than the micro center, which wasn't terrible but left something to be desired for sure. Another bonus is that finish is a perfect match (piano gloss black) for the micro set so my better half is happy too.

how would these work as rear for a 5.1 system? also, is there a stand that would accommodate them?
