whats better, Pennzoil Platinum full synth or Pennzoil ULTRA full synth?

I don't know about the oil filter but absolutely love the oil. Before switching to the Platinum version, I just used the regular Penzoil 5w20 and I typically got about 150 miles for half the tank of gas.

After switching to Platinum, I can now get to 230-245 miles for half the tank of gas. Significant gas mileage improvement. While driving on the freeway at 65 MPH, I notice the engine makes less "roaring" rev noise as well. When changing oil at 7k miles or so (for the sake of dirty oil filter, not because of the oil), the oil is still yellowish versus almost black on the regular dino oil. I'm sure if my car engine can talk, it would surely thank me for switching to this Platinum version from the old dino oil.

You heard it here guys. Over 50% improvement in MPG from change in oil type. No other factors involved such as a failed math class. Engine also purrs instead of roars.

edit: in all seriousness though, I did notice a slight improvement in mpg when I changed to this oil in my 2012 Mazda 3 skyactiv. I'm not gonna claim any improvement numbers though as there were some other variables involved. I did hit a personal best of 42.8mpg :pats self on back:

I primarily use http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/for...hreads.php as a reference for oils. Quite a few people have sent off samples to show how different oil is performing after xxxx miles. It can get a bit technical though.

You still didn't answer my question: did you personally use the oil mentioned in this thread and have personal experience to share with other SDers?

bob is great. I'm sure I can trust his expertise, just like the FDA for my drugs or the FAA for my flight safety.

That is a very good deal. Pennzoil Platinum is a great oil. I just paid $23 for a 5 qt jug at Wal Mart the other day.

I also noticed an increase of 1-2 MPG in a V8 Toyota Tundra PU after using this syn oil compared to a Pennzoil regular 10W-30 oil. Could not observe a change in a 4 cylinder Honda Civic using 5W-20. But for this price I will certainly buy more if I have a reason to drive by AAP. Nearest AAP is 60 miles each way. Thanks OP.

Measuring gas mileage at the point a gas gauge indicates "half" is like licking a finger and putting it in the wind to estimate wind direction. In my SkyActiv 3 I get 100 miles in the first bar (of 12) 200 in the middle 10, and 50-100 in the last 1. There is no rhyme or reason in how gas gauges display the tank contents and they are incredibly inaccurate. Fill the tank, zero the trip odometer, and fill again; that's the only way to measure gas mileage that isn't a wild estimate.

Bobs has a ton of information about oils, gas, additives, etc. and is known as a relilable source. The UOA information is great - once you understand it. Maybe do some research before you post?
