Some have reported oil leaks from that nut, however I imagine they are way over tightening the filter. In fact, you really shouldn't ever need a tool to loosen an oil filter if you've installed it properly, just need to hand tighten, and when changing it comes off by hand as well.

I've use regular oil in my car since it was new in 2009 but have been considering switching to synthetic. This deal looks good, but then I considered the long term costs. Once I switch, I stay switched, and if I have to pay regular price on synthetic for even one oil change a year, my savings immediately swing the other way. I like synthetic, but not the cost, even with the advantages.

What car do you drive? How often do you change "regular" oil?

2009 Hyundai Santa Fe 3.3L, change oil/filter every 4,000.

Measuring gas mileage at the point a gas gauge indicates "half" is like licking a finger and putting it in the wind to estimate wind direction. In my SkyActiv 3 I get 100 miles in the first bar (of 12) 200 in the middle 10, and 50-100 in the last 1. There is no rhyme or reason in how gas gauges display the tank contents and they are incredibly inaccurate. Fill the tank, zero the trip odometer, and fill again; that's the only way to measure gas mileage that isn't a wild estimate.

lol what a waste. You could go 5k+ miles EASY on conventional oil in something like that. I haven't seen UOAs on that particular model/engine yet but I'd venture to say that, depending on your driving style/conditions/etc. reaching 10k mile OCIs with a "good" synthetic shouldn't be an issue on that platform. That would obviously save you money in the long run and cut your amount of oil changes in half.

I don't know about the oil filter but absolutely love the oil. Before switching to the Platinum version, I just used the regular Penzoil 5w20 and I typically got about 150 miles for half the tank of gas.

After switching to Platinum, I can now get to 230-245 miles for half the tank of gas. Significant gas mileage improvement. While driving on the freeway at 65 MPH, I notice the engine makes less "roaring" rev noise as well. When changing oil at 7k miles or so (for the sake of dirty oil filter, not because of the oil), the oil is still yellowish versus almost black on the regular dino oil. I'm sure if my car engine can talk, it would surely thank me for switching to this Platinum version from the old dino oil.

I use aftermarket filters on my Nissan Altima. Currently use K&N (B1G1 Free ends today! at Pep Boys).
I use factory filters on my KIA Optima (Hyundai/KIA make top-notch filiters)
