Good PC keyboard?
I am looking to get a new PC keyboard. Not a big gamer so I do not need dozens of extra keys for macros and the like. More concerned with just getting a solid keyboard with a good feel. Wireless would be nice but usually they do not have a good feel or response so a regular wired keyboard is fine. Also do not really want to spend $100+. Anyone have a recommendation?

If you like small keyboards, the Microsoft Arc [amazon.com] is the best and most solid model on the market.
It is available in black or white. I always buy the white model for two reasons. I can see the keys in a dark environment and I can also see if it's getting dirty, rather than have a black one that can be so filthy that it's unhealthy. It's a wireless model that works flawlessly and the build quality is unsurpassed. So the downside for some folks could be that it has one single key for the arrows, so you lean the key in the desired direction, and it has no dedicated numeric pad. That aside, it's the best of the best. |

Logitech makes some really nice wireless one but you really need to try them yourselves
I know it is a little over your budget but I use this at work and it is really nice http://www.amazon.com/Kinesis-Max...s+keyboard |

Logitech Solar Keyboard [logitech.com]
Solar or other light source powered. It even charges up on your indoor lights. Never change batteries and its a sturdy design and very quiet even though its slim. |

I use this keyboard with my desktop: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Il...h+keyboard
I think it retails for $80 but I got it at Staples a few years back for only $30 on black friday. There's also a wireless version of this keyboard. I think the thing I like the most about this keyboard is that it is backlit.

Looks decent but the messed up arrow key would drive me nuts. I use the num pad keys all the time when editing. |

is this a general use keyboard or one for typing?
if you're gonna be doing some hardcore typing (yes i said hardcore typing lol), maybe look at a Cherry MX Blue mechanical keyboard Newegg sells Rosewill Cherry MX Blue keyboards frequently on sale for about $50-60 bucks. The keys are rated for over 10million keystrokes, you'll get the tactile click on actuation. Downside ofcourse is its loud as heck lol. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6823201040 wait for a sale, they come like every 2 weeks. Other than that, if you like laptop style keys, the logitech illuminated keyboard's a good scissor switch keyboard. They make a wireless version of it too, it just has Roll over problems so for fast typers you may miss a few keystrokes, i had that happen when i was using it and transcribing documents (120 WPM, which isn't even that fast). http://www.staples.com/Logitech-I...uct_774128 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6823126194 Intel i7 2700k | Asus Maximus IV Extreme-Z| 16 GB Gskill Ripjaw X | Corsair H80 | 2x EVGA GTX 670 FTW | Crucial M4 256 GB SSD | Samsung F1 1TB | WD Black 2TB | Seagate Barracuda LP 2TB | Seagate Barracuda 3TB | WD Green 2TB | Creative Titanium HD | Sony BD Drive | OCZ ZX850 | CM Storm Trooper | Dell U2711 | Filco Majestouch Linear R Limited Edition | Filco Majestouch 2 Metallic Blue MX Blue | Razer Naga Epic | Creative Gigaworks T40 II | Windows 7 Ultimate

I was impressed by Apple's standard chiclet style keyboard after trying it, so I went in search of a comparable PC version. I ended up buying this [newegg.com] and have been thoroughly satisfied. It is the best keyboard I have ever used (save perhaps for a Fujitsu I owned in the late 90's).

I bought a used keyboard from Ebay for $7 I do not understand why people buy wireless gadgets other than cell phones (which I do understand). I have a keyboard sitting twenty feet away from my htpc, all wired and under the carpet. How much do I spent on batteries every year for that keyboard? $0.00. How much did the keyboard cost me? $6.50. I paid it for with some pennies, nickels and dimes that had accumulated in a big glass jar. I browse slickdeals.net with Firefox [mozilla.org] running on Linux Mint [linuxmint.com] Nadia KDE [kde.org]. Don't be jealous of my boogie [youtu.be].

1) I move around a lot, even handing my keyboard to clients at times, and I simply wouldn't be able to if it was tethered to my PC. 2: I already have a ton of wires in here and any chance I get to reduce the quantity, I'll go for it, if I can, So I have two PC's in my "room" and each has a wireless mouse and a wireless keyboard and one has wireless speakers and one has a wireless remote control, and my headphones with mic are also wireless, so that's 7 sets of wires less in my very congested room. 3: I buy high end wireless products and the keyboards and remote, last over a year on one set of batteries and the Logitech Anywhere mouse, lasts approx 9 months, as I use it a lot (my friends tell me they go over a year with theirs). So, being a slick deal shopper, I usually buy these devices for a lot less than normal and if you figure that the average life span of these products is 3 to 5 years and then you calculate how much I will spend on batteries across that period of time, it usually works out to around the same as the normal price of said item. 4: I only have one life to live and computers are my thing. To be inconvenienced by being tethered all the time to computers and laptops, is simply unacceptable in my life. I want top of the line comfort and I pay a very low price to get it. My wireless headphones, for example which have a rechargeable pack, allow me to walk all over the place while I talk business on the Magic Jack or Skype. Heck, I can even go to the bathroom without anyone knowing.

I have a home network, which is as you may have guessed by now, wired. I crawled under the house and strung over a 100' of ethernet cable from room to room using a little drill to bore holes through the floor. But all of that wire is out the way too...unseen, just doin' its job, like the wires that we all use for electricity, ya know...

I have used many different keyboards and ergokeyboards, wireless keyboards including nice dinovo ones.
the best low cost keyboard is $10-15 dell or standard keyboard for me. most of the other features are marketing gimmicks. most gaming keyboards take up too much desk space for added macro buttons, ahve have sloppy key presses. You can use autohotkey with macros without extra keys. eg. "alt-1" triggers a macro. wireless keyboards have very noticeable delay, and just seem to break pretty quickly. the range is not close to what they advertise. all of those $$ keyboards sit in a box, because my $10 plain dell is superior. if you really wanted to spend $$, the next higher tier keyboard is a mechanical keyboard. |
