What's Squaretrade's policy on refurbished "storage"? It's giving me an option for 3 years, but it doesn't say whether or not it's for new or refurb'd condition.

Boy, even refurbs with a 20% discount is still WAY higher than what the prices were last November. I have been waiting for a price drop to pick up another SSD, but these prices are just ridiculously high compared to what they used to be.

I managed to get an Agility 4 256GB new for $99 through a pricing error back in November (thx TigerDirect!). People would say avoid this drive like the plague, but at that price, it can't be beat. So far, it's been good to me. At that size, I can use it for my OS, as well as all my applications and games! Gotta love it. Everything I do on my PC is almost instant

Sandforce's controller minimizes write amplification more than any other controller. The amount of actual data written to the SSD is the lowest in the industry because of on-the-fly compression. The only way I can think of that the NAND will be worn out is if someone writes huge quantities of incompressible data, benchmarks the drive to death, or does a huge number of secure erases.

The largest capacity drives (240) are the safest bet.

I am not sure if you're gonna save money in the long run. I am already second guessing refurbished mechanical hard drives, but SSD's? I think I'll pass. Is there is a price I'll jump? Yea, 1/4 the retail price or less.

So Far, I have 5 OCZ SSDs and everything works good.

My OCZ drives (I own 3) have been very reliable over 2.5 years.
My Crucial M4 60gbs, on the other hand, I've had 3 fail. then again, I bought 65 of them.

take that for what it's worth. I wouldn't hesitate to buy these if i needed extra room, but i do agree that a) they are not that steeply discounted and b) if this is to be your primary drive i wouldn't recommend this.

I've had multiple failures with OCZ SSDs in the past. I would not buy any of these without some sort of extended warranty in place.

I have used Vertex 3 w/90GB (same as 120GB minus 30GB storage) in raid0 for almost a year, no issues. The only time I had problems was caused by me, breaking off the raid setup improperly.

I think most of these are just okay deals. Vertex 3 for $70 is what we are all used to seeing, so nothing special (unless you need one NOW, and that is your budget). The best deal looks like Vertex 2 120GB for $55 if you are still running older machines with SATA 3Gbps.

After using a few different SSDs, here is my advise. It may be a bit cumbersome, but you will not regret it later. If everything is stable, and NO ERROR WHATSOEVER, your ssd will most likely last you a while.

1. Immediately after purchase, download the bootable iso OCZ website
2. Wipe ssd with secure erase
3. Next, flash with latest firmware (even if it already has it)
4. Run a few ssd benchmarks repeatedly for a few hrs.
5. Run Prime95 "blend" for a 24 hrs.
6. Backup OS image, and reimage it every 6 months, repeat process.

For $55 shipped, I bought the 120GB Vertex 2. I wouldn't use it in my main machine but I think it will speed up my secondary machine. If it fails in a year or something, I really wouldn't care much.
