No, it actually has several presets that sound like AC/DC etc plus its fully customizable. You can create patches to your OWN exact specs or you can find patches you like and adjust the gain etc to your hearts content.

Funny. From my exp. multi effects pedals are for amateurs who don't know much about tone and can't decide what they want to sound like. True pros allow the wood and pickups determine the tone as well as the tube amp they play through. Then they add pedals as needed to tweak the genre they are playing. Multi effects usually get tossed in the drawer or used as a headphone plug and play to f-around, like I did my RP70, when you don't want to play through gear. Plus that Digitech I found on eBay was $25 bucks new. I'd keep the $100 bucks and apply it to something else.

So? I spent $400 on a Boss GT-10 a few years back. It let me figure out exactly what I wanted. Most people spends hundreds on piddling around with different effects, the GT-10 allowed me to narrow down my range of what I truly needed. I traded it off for some decent pedals and have been buying\building boutique pedals since then. I've never regretted that purchase at all.

TL;DR version: Buy this if you're just wanting something to plug headphones into or are just starting to play around with effects. Be wary though, I know some earlier ZOOM stuff has some QC issues.

Got it! Your a tone snob who thinks your way is the only way. Not EVERYONE can afford or wants to maintain tube amps. A GOOD multi effects pedal gives people the ability to get acceptable to good amp modeling allowing them to hear the overall shape and tone of various amps, access to sound alike tones and patches patterned on famous pedals and effects, tuner with multiple tunings, analog to digital interface by connecting pedal to computer and more. Something like this can be helpful for LOADS of people and not just new/er players who don't know any better. The way you derive your tone, what type of pedal, amp etc also varies quite a bit on your overall genre and style of playing.

My favorite sound comes from a Rocktron Silver Dragon into a BBB Sonic Stomp straight into a Raven RG20 with a 12 inch speaker.

Good point about how a decent multi effects unit can help you decide what effects you really need, what type of amp could and characteristics you really prefer and much more.

I think that a decent pedal with some time invested tweaking patches can also help people get pretty close to the sound in their heads without having to spend hundreds to thousands on various effects and amps.

As far as Zoom quality, I don't know that my personal experience mirrors yours at all. I once had a Zoom 505 (which was rubbish with completely artificial digital sound) a Zoom G2 which I bequeathed to my son that is just over 2 years old and now I have the G2.1Dm that I've had for just about six months so I've never had any issues with longevity or long term quality personally..

I also think these types of units are good for any player who wants to give themselves more tonal options and variety without breaking the bank. The idea that these are really only helpful for novice players is kind of elitist since many artists like Prince, Trent Reznor and Billy Corgan have used Zoom products on recordings.

Oh, I can't say that I have had any personal experience with ZOOM products, but back when I was researching multieffects I was looking at the bigger MFX unit that had dual expression pedals that ZOOM offered and there were some reviews with it dying pretty soon after purchase, but as always YMMV. There's idiots out there who can break even the sturdiest of stuff
