That's because you have obviously never worked on an ABS system. If you actually owned a factory service manual you would/could actually learn why.

There are many paths in an ABS Valve body.The problem is that some valves are closed during normal operation and only open during a traction control event or an ABS event. Even though these valves are not open, any air trapped in these circuits are still getting compressed when you step on the brake pedal. Bleeding without a scan tool will not let this air out because it is backed up against a valve you aren't opening.

You're talking bleeding brakes in the context of total system disassembly, not routine maintenance. If you're to the point where you've pulled the valve body or pump or accumulator and air might be trapped in there, of course you better have a scan tool. That's heavy work. You implied you needed a scan tool for any brake bleeding which is patently untrue. Unless the system has been opened in the middle or leaked down to the point the reservoir is empty, there is no reason you need a scan tool to safely bleed brakes. Not every scenario is a worst case scenario! Did you use to bench bleed your master cylinder when flushing your brake fluid too?

I have a question. I have a 1998 Camry I4 and it seems both QC562 and QC707 would fit. Which one is better or it doesn't matter?

I don't know if its my driving or these pads, but these seem to wear out rather quickly compared to previous ones. Anyone have similar experience with these wagner brake pads?

I am due for new pads, what is considered the best? Amazon seems to point to "Akebono". This would be for a 99 Camry. I believe its a front wheel drive, so only the front need pads?

This might be a stupid question, but is this one brake pad each, or the pair?

The best pads are the super expensive (your car's make) "dealer pads". Just remember to have the rotors cut or replace the rotors/drums, otherwise the pads make noise and wear out fast. If the rotors arent cut by the right person, they will make noise or vibrate.

What exactly does lifetime warranty mean with brake pads? After they wear down you get another pair?

Rockauto has tax and shipping amazon has neither I'm not sure why there is a comparison..

Also, just read the fine print:

So in my case I only have the front pads that qualify, and no eligible rear items. So I am guessing my rebate would only be $15?

This isn't turning out to be the deal that I imagined..

I got 286,000 miles on my 2005 Prius and have yet to replace the rear brakes and replaced the front at 125,000 miles. Should I replace all now? Anyone put these in a Prius?

Are you sure you don't have Wagner QuickStop's? The QS is their value line, the ThermoQuiet is their premium line. TQ's are excellent pads.




Akebono is OEM for many Toyota cars and a VERY good pads. I use them on our Ponitac Vibe (aka Toyota Matrix) with Wagner rotors, excellent combination.




Pads are (99% of the time) priced per axle.

Nothing in that statement is true. The best pads are dependent on your driving style and other factors. IE, Akebono is the OEM for many Toyota's. Why would I pay 2x the price at the dealer for Pontiac\Toyota pads when I can get the same thing in the original manufactures box for half? I also wouldn't use OEM pads on my Wrangler, for example. That get's nothing but EBC pads. I'm willing to sacrifice lifespan for stopping power. It didn't come from the factory ~600lb heavier than it is now, turning 37" tires with a Ford disc brake axle in the rear... If it's a daily driver, yes, dealer (or whoever made them for the manufacture) are fine.

And no, rotors don't have to be turned or replaced every time you pad swap. As long as you bed them properly, there will be no issues.




Depends on in what context you're talking about. Some chains offer lifetime brakes. These deals generally use the cheapest pads they can get and you get free pads / shoes for the life of the vehicle, but you're usually paying 60+ in labor every time you take it back.

Lifetime warranty on some pads only covers manufactures defects. Lifetime warranty on other pads, most notably parts-store brand pads means you get one free set. If you were to simply buy a quality part in the first place (like these Wagner's), you wouldn't need a lifetime warranty. A quote from Tommy boy couldn't be more true;

Damn, I should have waited to order the new pads and rotors from RA last week, 5% discount would have been nice!










For me, Rock Auto wins most of the time, I've probably spent 2k with them in the last 12 months. They have Wagner rotors for the Vibe for $25. Amazon is $39 w\ Prime (an no stock, at that). I saved $25 even after paying shipping by getting two rotors and a set of pads from RA. If it was pads alone, it would have been a wash, I would have gone with Amazon since I can get FuelPerks from Amazon GC's plus CB.

Shipping depends on what warehouse the parts come out of and where you live. I ordered my stuff last Friday morning, it showed up via FedEx Saturday afternoon, ~30 hours after I placed the order. Amazon wouldn't have had them here (if they had stock) until Monday. No tax on Amazon or RA for me.
