Rockauto has tax and shipping amazon has neither I'm not sure why there is a comparison..Confused3
Ummm, no, Amazon has tax in many states, Rockauto does not. And there is almost always a 5% discount available at RA. Even with shipping, pads come out cheaper for me at RA than Amazon, hence the comparison LMAO

Sorry, but you are wrong. Inspection is to determine whether the rotors can be resurfaced or must be replaced. The rotors have to be replaced or resurfaced when pads are changed or the new pads won't seat properly - new crosshatching is needed on the rotor to seat the pads correctly.. Please try reading an auto service manual or watching a car repair show before posting more bad information.

I do realize that a lot of amateur mechanics don't resurface the rotors, but it's not "right" and the stopping distance will increase because the pads won't seat correctly. No competent mechanic would change pads without resurfacing or replacing the rotors.
Really? Yours is a case of the pot calling the kettle black... Watch a car repair show for advice? WOW.

http://www.koalamotorsport.com/te...rotors.asp

"...it is not usually necessary to replace the rotors with every brake pad change... It is not recommended that you have BMW rotors cut, this almost always results in rotors that are either below minimum thickness or that will warp within weeks."

I challenge you to call this KMS mechanic incompetent. Yes, this advice only applies to BMW in this case. Other situations may be different.

You can get them cheaper at RockAuto.com by around $5-$7 per axle. The rebate is valid there too.
Rebate is valid only on the ThermoQuiet line, not on the QuickStop or SevereDuty lines.
Use the 5% Discount Code, 710F1AC6FB23 thet expires on 03/24/2013. Enter this code in the 'How Did You Hear about Us' box to receive discount.
You may save on tax also if Amazon charges tax in your state and RockAuto does not.
Any way to get free shipping at rockauto??

When new rotors are purchased, they do come with cross hatching and THEN you "should" replace the pads because the old pads might not seat properly with the new rotors.

These are ceramic pads. If you have determined that your disks are not warped and have not reached minimum thickness and not otherwise damaged, there is no reason under the sun that you should replace the rotors just because you are replacing your pads. Just make sure you follow the recommended bedding-in process for the ceramic pads. Will it be like brand new? No, but if you read your service manual and follow the inspection procedure properly and complete the bedding-in process properly, the performance difference will be negligible.. PERIOD

The only people who would advise anything else just wants you to spend more money for no good reason...

I'm a noob when it comes to car parts. If I need front and rear brakes, do I just by two of these or are there different types for front vs. rear?

On the subject of brake pads (dura last ceramic) I just bought mine from autozone (20% off if you buy $100+ and free shipping) also new rotors. The pads have a lifetime warranty and from what I've read are pretty decent. So $50 for the life of the car, not too shabby.
Last time I bought something from Autozone was brake rotors. Those were to replace my warped ones. Little did I know that their duralast rotors came pre-warped for my convenience.

Having said that, I see no slick deal in those pads. For my Odyssey, rebate brings price down to like 32 bucks, when a good tried and always working acdelco ceramic pads are $20, prime eligible. I don't know what's so good about those wagner pads, but I can't think of anything to make it a slick deal, seriously.

Brake pads come in pairs, and my front and rear pads are different.

I don't see anything in that article or on the site that says it was written by a mechanic. In any event, you quoted out of contex to try to make a point not made in that article. You left out the "BMW is renowned for soft brake rotors, they give much better stopping performance, but tend to wear out fairly quickly." - and the part that they don't recommend turning the rotors, but rather replacing them.

You are welcome to do what you like with your cars - I was just pointing out that it is unsafe to not turn the rotors when pads are changed.
That is why I posted the link! Out of context? Not a chance. Try the part right after your quote: "BMW is renowned for soft brake rotors, they give much better stopping performance, but tend to wear out fairly quickly. Despite this, it is not usually necessary to replace the rotors with every brake pad change."

This was posted by the site / shop's owner, BMW master mechanic Brett Anderson.

Unsafe to not change rotors when changing pads? Hogwash. If the condition and thickness of the rotors is good, there is no reason to.

YES!! Definitely, unless Advanced Auto is running some sort of super sale. I paid just under $95 for my current set of ThermoQuiets from Advanced Auto. I just bought another set (Front & Rear Complete) for $33 after the rebate..
I really do not know anything about specs. Can you please let me know what to buy for 2010 Accord LXP for $33 after rebate.

the part I get is the Wagner QC831 ThermoQuiet Ceramic Disc Brake Pad Set.
http://www.amazon.com/Wagner-QC83...001O0TZS8/

In their rebate website they specify they need to know whether I am buying front or rear pads. This may be a silly question, but what exactly is the item above then...front, rear, or both?
I'm pretty sure those are front pads, your car most likely comes with drum brakes in the rear.

Easiest way to do this is look up what vehicle you have on Amazon at the top. Then go to brake pads and it will automatically tell you which pads you need for the Front and what you need for the Rear. Wagner TQ front and rear will be clearly labeled.

Go here: http://www.fme-cat.com/PassengerC...Truck.aspx

Plug in your vehicle information and they will give you all the options. Remember, the rebate is only good for the Thermquiet ceramic pads.

When you have the model numbers for your front and rear pads, go to amazon and search for each set by model number, add to cart. This way you know you have purchased the right parts for your car.

Take $30 off the total delivered Amazon price and that's what you have after rebate.. Good luck!!

This might be a stupid question, but is this one brake pad each, or the pair?
You get the pair. So if you order front ones you will get four pads in the box.
