Thanks OP. I couldn't get econo shipping because TD put x's in address line 2 by default. I had to erase it and then econo shipping was available

At this point I think I'm just going to take a couple of the yellow fans and solder in some green LEDs (I've got a friend who will give me the LEDs free  )

The Cooler Master Green LED SickleFlow Fans [newegg.com] go on rebate every few months. Usually you can score 1 for $2 to $4, depending on if there are any 20% off promo codes available to stack at the time. Cheapest I've seen them in the last 6 months was $1.39 each. Of course, I have 6 in my reserve storage back from this Money Maker Deal. |

Occasionally, you'll see a deal on a Cooler Master or Zalman for super cheap... but those are a lot harder to come by lately. Oh, there was also a Masscool one a while back too. All of these rebates are from reliable companies, so you might as well stock up.

? These fans are junk from what I have seen. The soldering is about as reliable as a coin toss and the leds don't work on all the fans. Also I have 1 that came with zero screws in the packaging!

That's what I was thinking as well. Either that or it's a way to get short term quick sales/clear out old inventory and hopefully a 3% of the people who purchase the product forget to send in the rebate. Their overhead is obviously the rebate processing company and the retailer which probably marks up the product 35% as is the usual. I still think it costs the company less than 20 cents to manufacture the actual fan, so there are still profits to be made. |

A price that you do not pay, such as price before rebate or "list price" or anything else is meaningless. They can make it whatever they want since buyers won't be paying it and market discipline is not applied to it. The only thing is that you might consider is that the pre-rebate price is the "penalty" if you don't submit the rebate correctly. In that sense it might matter. Also the value or "worth" of a good is not based on its price. It's not based on MSRP. It's based solely on the good itself. The fact that you don't understand this most basic concept explains my original shorthand reply which assumed you were reasonably intelligent. I'm sorry for that assumption. |
