reminds me of cheap inkjet printers, but the ink is expensive.

I'm unsure if you can refill these.
Each of the regular Scotts fertilizers have different sized granules. You need to adjust the settings on a regular spreader to control the rate of coverage. You can not adjust the SNAP spreader in any way, so I'm assuming the SNAP program fertilizers all have the same sized granules. It looks like you're stuck using this system with its priority fertilizer. Plus, you receive less fertilizer (4000 sq ft versus 5000), it costs several dollars more per bag, and there aren't as many types to choose from in the SNAP system (I'm not seeing Summer Guard or Winterizer). It does look like a good money maker for Scotts, though.
