How easy or difficult is it to install the SB6141 with Comcast? Do you just go through self-installation through a web browser, or do you have to call Comcast and their agent would have to go through some lengthy steps?

I have to imagine Comcast is similar.

My two cents: Last year I bought an Arris CM820a modem on Ebay (I'm with Comcast). I paid $69 with shipping, and by all accounts it's been absolutely amazing. If you're with Comcast, this is one of the highest speed DOCSIS 3.0 Modems that they allow (300Mbps, I think), so you're all set for the foreseeable future. Setup was a breeze, and I've actually been getting much better speeds than I'm paying for (maybe a mistake on Comcast's end? Dunno).

i called them to do it, but you can just do it online too. it only took comcast about 5 minutes over the phone, so it was very easy and good to talk to them. comcast is great for keeping the modem updated too, as they enabled the modem with the latest firmware.

best of all, i just love not having to pay comcast their ridiculous $7 monthly rental fee anymore for their old inferior modem.

Looks like FUD. The basis of his claim the black ones are used is that they aren't sold to end users, only ISPs. There is no doubt that these come in OEM brown boxes, not retail packaging. This doesn't mean they are used, just OEM (how the seller is getting them, who knows). Mine came in a sealed box, a sealed bag (just like my retail 6120), with protective film on the front, no signs of wear, and the strip of stickers with HFC MAC address etc. Again, just like my retail 6120. The reviewer's problems with the modem were almost certainly the result of a well-documented problem with an older version of firmware coupled with the fact that his ISP (TWC) refuses to update firmware on customer-owned modems.
