How do Seagate NAS products compare to something like a comparable Synology? I've had nothing but good experiences with Seagate external drives so I wonder how this NAS is.

This was $200 from amazon a week or two back, it had no HD but its a 500Gig drive not really needed just fluff. Also have not seen any professional reviews on these enclosures yet.. So holding judgement, cause if its crappy then better to get a nsa 325 from zyxel.

I have two of the pink Pogos sitting in my closet because after three entire nights of trying to get ArchLinux and Samba setup on them, I gave up.

Pogo is good and all for a single user, but if you plan on streaming to multiple users at the same time, then pogo is not the way to go. As I said earlier smallnetbuilder right now shows the best NAS for under $200 is the zyxel nsa325. Performance wise it beats the 300-400 NAS's out there. Now we just need newegg or amazon to put them on sale for $120 again. This one i doubt will perform as well as the zyxel but I am waiting on some reviews to confirm.

I've been using that Zyxel for about two months now. Pretty solid, except for the fact that the administration panel looks and "feels" like trash. The other companies' administration panels look better.

Otherwise, solid box like I said. No hiccups with a 2 TB Seagate drive.

Yeah from all the reviews I read its no synology GUI but the performance cant be beat. Only other issues I read about it were the lack of hotswap, and no email alerts if there is a failure. Again though for the price its hard to argue. Its actually on par and faster in some tests then the synology units that are $400.

SYnology DS212j can be had for about $180 something when Newegg has it on sale and is a far superior NAS device to this one.

Actually you would be 100% incorrect, only thing superior is the admin panel. In hardware and performance this very easily kills the synology DS212J. Please don't bring assumptions into this just dealing with true facts not peoples opinions, that way you don't confuse people with incorrect statements. The only synology unit that's, a bit better then this one is the DS213+, and that's a $430 unit. Also the Zyxel can be had for $120 on sale.
