I agree with the google play comment- I bought one of these but ended up using iTunes Match because upload from home through the pogoplug was so slow. Just to bring up the list of music took too long through it.

I just started looking into a Pogoplug recently so I don't have to store my music on all my computers/devices.

Is there any reason to need the $50 Pogoplug 4 over this one for $15?

Actually, if music is my main reason for one of these, is there something better I should know about?

I've been using this Pogoplug device since December 2012 when I first saw it on sale for $15 Big Grin

I have an old 120GB WD 2.5" portable HDD hooked up to it. I can access my files from any PC with an internet connection, my tablet, and my phone. I have my phone and tablet app set to automatically upload (back up) my media (photos/videos) when I'm on a WiFi connection.

I was also able to get the FREE 20GB cloud storage from Pogoplug when I signed up for the Adorama VIP program.

So currently I have about 140GB of online storage FREE. I can hook up a USB hub and connect as many USB drives as I want Big Grin There's no monthly fee when you sign up for a Pogoplug account. The device only requires a broadband connection. And did I mention there's NO FILE SIZE LIMIT ?

EDIT: I see some people trying to use this for music/video streaming. I'm going to tell you right now you're going to be disappointed. I myself don't use it for streaming, but I've read a lot of people trying to use this for that and they all said it will not work.

For android/ios, the only thing you really need to access all your media is the Qloud media app (free, ad supported) and the Qloud media server installed on your computer. It does videos, music, photos, although it especially excels at streaming videos from your computer. It's like having your own netflix but using your own media on your computer at home. It will play virtually any format because your computer will transcode it and stream it to the device in the bitrate of your choice. It also has support for subtitles and multiple audio tracks. Since your computer does transcode the video, you will need a decent cpu.

And for those on android looking for a specialized app for music streaming from your home comptuer, I would recommend Dsub which is an alternative client for the subsonic server software. It gives you the option of downloading songs while you're streaming it so that you'll have access it to them offline on your device.

In addition, music served through the Subsonic server can also be accessed remotely through a browser.

How does this compare to the earlier model(s) of the Pogoplug?

Anyone know?
I have a POgoplug Pro I bought a longtime ago....it has 4 USB ports. And is wifi enabled...but I have mine connected directly to my router to get faster speeds when I access it remotely .... Works great with my iPad, iPhone and remotely from my office.

I do the same - when people say they run out of space on their phone because of all the music they have I just laugh and tell them about Google Play Music Manager... and then they think its too hard.
There is basic difference between playing locally and over the internet, Data Plan. Not everyone prefers to have data plan.
