Are these really 95MB/s? I have a couple Patriot LX 64GB class 10 SDXC cards that get very abysmal speeds - only about 10MB/s write and 17MB/s read...

If this card is still class 10, how can they get such radically improved speeds?

I believe class 10 is a minimum of 10MB/s and I don't think there is any classification above class 10 currently. So anything above 10MB/s , even if it's 100MB/s is still considered class 10.

I have the 16GB version. The benchmark is almost as advertised.

Class 1-10 is for SDHC, which requires the minimum write speed. For the newer cards, I think they use the UHS-1 standard.

That's correct, if you see "UHS-I" it means its like Class 10.... ON DRUGS!

Those are the fast class 10 cards the "UHS-I" ones. I'm not sure why they don't just add another class system. I think this makes it more confusing because lets be honest most consumers are idiots. They see "class 10" and everything after that doesn't matter.

Yeah, I have 32GB & 16GB Extreme Pro and they perform very closely to their claim.

If you have the card connected to the computer via USB you will only see the USB tranfer rate. This card is much faster. Looks like you have it connected via a USB 2 port.

Not all memory is created equal. If you look around, there are a plethora of SD cards that range in cost and ability even though they're rated for Class 10. This would be considered the Bugatti Veyron of SD cards at the moment, as there doesn't seem to be anything faster available.

For most consumers this is a moot point as most electronics don't require anything more than Class 4/6 to perform adequately. HD movie capability for example doesn't need more than a few MB/s to work. However, for a pro photographer, we might be searching for a card that will be written to a quickly as possibly so our camera memory buffers will clear out faster and allow us to continue shooting with less delays.

I know some cameras [Nikon D800 for example] don't care whether they're writing to the Extreme 45MB/s or the Extreme Pro 95MB/s card; their buffer clearing performance seems to be the same. My Sony A99 [and the Canon 5D3] seem to be able to utilize the faster card write speeds to help clear out the buffer faster. I would definitely check your usage scenario, otherwise you'll be buying this simply to transfer data to your PC faster [through USB 3.0].

I have it connected via an ExpressCard 34 port, which which I've also hooked up a USB3 reader to, and gotten about 90MB/s read times with an external HDD [caseyfriday.com]. So it's not my hookup; the card is definitely the bottleneck.

I was just wondering why this card is marketed to go so much faster (and thank you to all the answers!).

The 5d3 does not utilize the faster SD cards. It does for CF though.
