Cheapest price you can buy an Acer C7 [newegg.com] Chromebook...

If you are like me and was looking to buy the most affordable Chromebook, this could help as this is one of the few places [google.com] where you can buy it for $199 and possibly avoid tax (for some) and get free shipping (with Shoprunner). Weird, Amazon actually sells it for more than any other etailers...

Seems like a sweat deal. I'd spend an extra $50 for the Samsung because it's pretty. Smilie

Given that the Acer has a Celeron processor, you might be able to run Windows 7. That being said, it's going to be a pretty miserable experience with a physical HDD and 2GB of RAM. The system is designed explicitly for the lightweight Chrome OS. Plus, why would you even want to? Unless you have an extra Win 7 license, you'd need to invest at least another $100 just to install it. At that price, you might as well by yourself a cheap netbook or even spring for the ASUS Vivobook, which is currently selling for somewhere between $399 and $450.

Don't even think about it with the Samsung Chromebook. It runs an ARM processor.

Nope. But you will have access to Google Docs. I know, I know . . . it's not the same thing. But Google Docs will take care of most of your word processing needs.

Honestly though, the Samsung chromebook comes with a measly 16G SSD. I won't be upgrading right away, but I would love to upgrade to a 64G or 128G SSD when it hits the right price...

Last year I picked up an HP3105m and added 2GB of ram. They were $200 on ebay. I bet you could find one of those used. Excellent GPU, and upgradable. Runs Windows 7 perfectly. Love the 11.6" size. My only issue is boot up is about 15 seconds out of hibernate mode. Have not installed an SSD (too many other toys/laptops in the house). But its a great bedside laptop.
