This child is at a state of being close to institutionalization; it takes all we can to keep her from being put away. That may seem like an easy choice to you, but it's a terrible thing to do to an eleven year-old girl. Anyway, that's my life and what I deal with. If it weren't my problem, I probably wouldn't be very understanding, either. You don't know what you don't know, and, trust me, sometimes ignorance is bliss. May you remain ignorant of this. |

But let me ask you a question: which is harsher - a cut of 2% from the growth, or - a cut equal to 2% of the entire budget? Some might read this quickly and think the first one is tens of times smaller. But in fact they are identical. When a unit is told they have X% increase, they budget for that increased amount. Then if in the middle of the year that increase is taken away, they have to cut something/somewhere. I think that is Business 101 or maybe Logic 101. |

We don't pay taxes... We have money taken away from us initially, and then have to prove the government was not justified in taking what it did. It is essentially floating an interest free loan annually of our money. It is institutionalized theft. That there are means to obtain some of our money back does not excuse what is being done.
The government is bloated and those that approve the budgets also vote themselves raises, with our money, despite an economic downturn. The chutzpah is strong, and the people are by and large feeble minded and ignorant enough to let it happen. Personally, I'm interested in keeping other people from building Utopia, because the more you believe you can create heaven on earth the more likely you are to set up guillotines in the public square to hasten the process. -- James Lileks

Moreover claiming withholding is an interest free loan is also nonsensical. Think of it in lieu of having taxes due at the end of the year (actually mid April) instead of as you make the money. |
