G580's are crap

Very poor screen - not just in colors, but in contrast ratio and backlight evenness. Touchpad is also very spotty. Sometimes it's over sensitive, sometimes not enough.

That being said, you get what you pay for. I personally would rather pay an extra $100-$150 to have a better screen and touchpad

It has a brushed metal lid and keyboard deck, and while the rest of it is plastic, it still feels pretty sturdy. The touchpad is slightly recessed with a chrome bezel around it, and it works quite well. The screen is only 1366x768 but its decent enough. It's not quite as nice as the Ideapad Z570 I have, but it has significantly better battery life and it is whisper quiet.

Its a Core i3-3120 and I paid $340 for it....got it when Office Depot had it on sale recently. I have a tight budget, so while I might prefer to spend another $150 for a nicer laptop, I can't. In this price range, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better machine.

However, I ordered a Core i5 G580 from the Lenovo Outlet for my wife, and it does not have a metal lid or keyboard deck...both are black speckled plastic. And the touchpad is not recessed...its clearly not as nice as my G580. But she doesn't care about all that. She just wants something that works. Having said all that, $336 isn't a good deal for a refurb Core i3...although it is Ivy Bridge, and you still get a 1-year warranty from Lenovo Outlet.

The one from office depot a week ago were selling at $265 new for the i3 using staple 75 dollar coupon.

That's the one I got....I just wasn't lucky enough to get them to honor the coupon.

For both your G580, how much 'bloat ware' came installed? If there was, what did you do to combat it?
