Hertz Codes/Deals Worth Mentioning

For what it's worth, i've been shopping for rentals lately also and Hotwire.com has been KILLING the prices of every other vendor. You pick your vehicle class (compact, standard, full etc...) and dates and then you pay for your car and they tell you which vendor you're renting from AFTER the transaction is finished. They guarantee the rental will be with a national brand (Hertz, Alamo, National, Enterprise, Thrifty, or Dollar) so no ghetto rental places. Also, their insurance $9/day (should you choose to get it) is WAYYYYYY cheaper than the other places (hertz charges 28.99/day!!!!)

Quick Numbers for reference all based on a one week/saturday-saturday full size rental in Phoenix during the month of april including taxes and fees - No insurance added.

That was a nice tip! Best rates I could get trying all different kinds of codes was $400 for an economy. Hotwire gave me $266 for a midsize SUV.

I might need to rent a car in a few weeks but I'm new to this. Can anyone explain what CDP and RQ XTIA stand for or mean? TIA.

i just got a car reserved last week for mid april. Got my best price using priceline name your own price. Hotwire was 2nd place, but priceline got it beat by $5 a day.

How did that compare in terms of final price? (taxes and fees is where they get you...)

(Final price considering my original post parameters for Hotwire for 7 days with taxes and fees @ a 22.95/day rate is 265.40... If I tried to name my own price at Priceline for $20.00/day (if they accept it) the final total is $265.99. I should be saving $20.65 but they're charging 59 cents more? You're 5 less a day probably didn't add up to much of a difference.)

Which company was it with? (knowing you're going to get a nationally recognized brand provides a great level of confidence)

Hotwire insurance is $9/day Priceline is $11/day... There's something to be said for seeing a final price and booking based on that number.

Too bad that PC only works on airport locations. Hate the concession fees etc. Wished they worked for HLE's though.

overall, priceline was cheaper by about $40, 8 days x $5.
Subtotal: $240
Taxes & Fees: $158.36
Total: 398.36

Austin has some ridiculously expensive rental cars, this price was for a Ford fusion or similar from Avis.

Also, I don't look at insurance prices. Its always cheaper to use your current car insurance. And most credit cards have secondary insurance.

They were about $150 less for the five days we will be in Lihue. You used to have to email them to have the deal set up, now they let you do it yourself on their site. The best part is you don't have to prepay.

Edit: Just checked using the OP's code. The same car listed as $348 at Hertz, I got for $216 for the five days.

You are a Godsend, Thare187! Heading to Hawaii later this month and every site I've checked, car rental prices were sky high! I was a little skeptical about booking thru discounthawaiicarrental, but read the Yelp reviews and am at ease after reading the stellar reviews! You need to start a thread just for this car rental website!

Glad I could help. I happened to stumble across the site by accident. I thought for sure it had to be a scam, but after they told me I didn't have to prepay I gave it a shot. I called Avis and confirmed the rental. 3 more days to the beach!
