Plus most people aren't willing to get so deep into the guts of their equipment, they just want to plug n' play. Although the price is tempting, heed the advice of the others in this thread - avoid this card unless you like loud noise and need to add a few degrees to the ambient room temperature... |

I have one dead 3870 and one dead 4870. Both powercooler, but they were very early models of both cards. Hard to say if it was the brand or the newness.

Main PC- peak power 225W /w screens: AMD 1100t, Asus M488t-I, 8GB Corsair 1333Mhz DDR3, Intel 160GB x-25m x2, 7750, Acer s201hl, Lilliput 7 t-LCD Second PC - peak power 135W: AMD 615e, Asus M488t-I, 4GB Kingston 1333Mhz DDR3, Kingston SSDnow 64GB, 6570, Acer s201hl, Lilliput 7 t-LCD Third PC - peak power 70W without screen: same as 2nd no video card and AL2216W |

Waercooling doesn't make much sense on the 7950. A full cover 7950 block goes for around $100, as much as a 7970 block, a watercooled 7950 overclocked to high heaven will not perform better than a air-cooled, modestly overclocked 7970 so it really doesn't make much. Additionally a factory overclocked card does not offer a greater overclocked potential, it only guarantees that it will be stable at the overclcoked speed the manufacturer set it to. Whatever overclock the higher voltage should allow will not bet different than another card that has been set by the user to that voltage. That being said overclocking is very much a gamble and depended on how lucky you get with the card you receive.

That being said, the Sapphire Boost 7950 for $20 more is a much better buy than this Powercooler - the Sapphires have a better, quieter cooler, have a higher stock voltage, and overclock with ease. |

It's frustrating that these cards don't take the price tumble they did 2-3 years ago. When 5850s went on clearance, that was a steal.
90% chance they will. Newegg has excellent customer service. Last edited by Dillweed; 03-04-2013 at 03:39 AM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

IIRC Powercolor only uses reference PCBs. That'll mean that you can get a worth a damn bock instead of a sealed loop. It'll cost more to build a proper loop, but I've had some of my LC components for nearly a decade. |
