I just grabbed the Powercolor 7870 Tahiti Le Myst the other day that has a similar if not identical single-fan solution. I have to say I'm not a big fan, no pun intended. It runs a bit hot (85+ celcius during stress) on automatic fan settings and at a reasonable curve it seems to run comparatively loud. I ordered the Sapphire 7950 Boost earlier today for comparison and will likely return the the 7870 due to the heat/noise unless I can justify the CrossFire and get the temps down a bit with the addition of a side fan. This may not be relevant to the 7950 here but I'm definitely more in favor of the dual-fan solutions other vendors are using.

It's a REALLY good price imo. However, I've gone through a Myst and I have a standard Vortex 7870both from Powercolor (got them both within a week of each other). The Myst was obscenely hot..85-90 and ran like a hair dryer. The Vortex 7870 was better in regards to heat but still ran a good 10 degrees warmer than a reference Visiontek 7870 I'm rocking in another box (same case). Kind of sad really.
To Powercolor's credit, their customer service is absolute 5 star. Last edited by kevinh; 03-02-2013 at 01:01 AM.. |

Well, after seeing how much tax costs....it would be more beneficial to get a XFX Double D HD 7950 off TigerDirect (no tax) Since its about 4$ cheaper and has 2 fans....

imo spend $30 more for the Sapphire one if you are not gonna use watercooling on it.
The sapphire one is much quieter, cooler with 5 heatpipe design and has more stock overclock potential, because the stock voltage is already higher at 1.25v no need to raise voltage. Trust me noise issues will make you regret it later, if you want to overclock unless you go watercooling then this is the one to get since it's reference. If you don't care about noise and you wanna save $30 go ahead and buy this powercolor. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Pro...6814202006 |
