Fell the same way about it after dealing with my last MIR for the portable 1 TB drive that was sent by certified mail and they were claiming it never got there....

Not always. I usually check other reviews/teardowns to make sure it's not like some drives which have the USB interface solder'd directly onto the drive. Also I'm not sure about the warranty. Stick Out Tongue
