If anyone's interested, here you are reviews of all different sized Toshiba Canvio drives:
(the reviews are up and down...so not sure what to make of it...I'll probably keep waiting for a Western Digital external drive deal.) http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-Can...B008DW96N but it still looks like a very nice deal for those that get a perfect drive since you get usb 3.0 capability. |

I mean, if they have 1.7 average rating on their own site, shouldn't you be worried?

hitachi knows the drives were in enclosures by the serial numbers. if you try to make a claim on the warranty it will not work it since the drives have been removed from their enclosures, thus voiding the warranty. also, you wont be able to provide the correct proof of purchase aka receipt showing the drive was purchased as a bare drive. why are you having so much trouble making sense out of that. whats trending right now >>> Slickdeals Live View Feed TWC charging $3.95 to lease their cable modem - buy your own modem discussion if someone steals food from your lunch in the refrigerator at work, just make some yummy tempting cookies with laxatives in them. then just wait to see who gets the runs! that person wont ever steal anything from your lunch ever again!!! O.O |

I haven't RMAed any of my opened drives, granted. If you want to share your experiences and support them with some evidence, go for it. Otherwise, we're both just theorizing ![]() Anyways, I don't see why the drives would show a warranty if they're associated with the external enclosures "by the serial numbers". If they show a warranty on the website - they should be honoring their warranty. Feel free to call corporate to discuss your upcoming false advertising lawsuit (check your state consumer protection laws first!)

you will find all this out when you try to exercise the bare drive warranty. |

"A valid proof of purchase may be required to prove eligibility. If you do not have a valid proof of purchase, the limited warranty period will be measured from the date of sale from HGST to the authorized distributor." So yes, you can file a warranty claim without a proof of purchase - your purchase date will just be backdated to the original shipping date (aka the date that it shows when you check the warranty in the first place). |

you will find all this out if you ever try to file a claim. Last edited by ReverseHandedJO; 03-02-2013 at 11:01 AM.. |

Wish people would put TigerDirect in the topic, so those of us who have been screwed by their not paying rebates in the past wouldn't waste the time...
Really hate SlickDeals constantly running their javascript through so many untrusted domains...try serving it yourself, or stop using so much unnecessarily.
