I have the XTAR WP2 II charger [amazon.com](also fits other Li-Ion size batteries besides 18650) and any Panasonic-origin 18650's("NCR18650A") in the 3100MaH range. I use the Redilast version of the Panasonic 18650 though some other quality branded 18650s are also made by AW and Callie's Kustoms. Stay the hell away from Trustfire/Lightfire/Crapfire Chinese branded 18650s which are dirt-cheap yet claim extreme MaH ratings.

Those brands are a little more $ but they are true to their claims in power(MaH), safety and longevity.

I second this recommendation on the xtar charger, it's the same one I use and so far has been a really solid charger.

For the most part I agree with the comments on not buying any of the "fire" brand batteries, but there are at least a couple of exceptions. This one [dx.com] is a very solid performer, and one of the few "fire" brand batteries that is actually rated very close to it's real (MaH). At $9.38 a pair, it's also one of the cheaper, decent performing, protected batteries that you can buy. For $7.70 a pair, These ones [dx.com] also get pretty good reviews, and seem to be legitimately rated.

For budget minded people just starting out with 18650 batteries, I'd recommend the aforementioned Trustfires, but if money is no object, and or once you get more serious about flashlights, you can't go wrong with the Panasonics.

I have the Intellicharger I4, Nitecore version, and have been very pleased with its performance. I grabbed mine off of eBay from EdisonBright for ~$23 shipped. I've heard that he's accepted Best Offers of $20, but I've never tried personally. You can read up on it on Amazon's product page [amazon.com]. The beauty in it is that "the i4 is able to automatically identify Li-ion, Ni-MH and Ni-Cd rechargeable batteries and apply an appropriate charging mode (Constant Charge Current (CC), Constant Charge Voltage (CV) and Trickle Charge)." Each slot charges independently of one another. I've tried it with AAs, AAAs, 18650s, 18350s and never an overcharge thus far. HTH

BTW, for those that will be raiding old laptop batteries for the 18650s that they contain, please heed the tips/tricks/warnings on the candlepowerforums thread [candlepowerforums.com].

Never seen that style of Q5 Cree before i got the one that takes 1 AA battery 3 mode real one not the knock off ones for $8 shipped last year.

I TD this deal too. Better off with no light at all than a cheaply made poor quality DX or Meritline Chinese flashlight that will ALWAYS fail, break, or arrive DOA, and this is one of them, stay away, don't waste your time or money. There are lots of good, top quality Chinese flashlights: look for Fenix, Nitecore, Olight, the 4Sevens Quarks & Preons, Thrunite, etc.

I have several meritline cree flashlights, but not this particular one, though it looks ok. the main thing I've found is to have one that extends to be a mini-lantern. also, at least a hi-lo mode, as the hi is often overly bright, heating up, and using up your batteries fast.

I've found the inexpensive blue li-ion 3.7W and single chargers to work fine from either meritline or off of ebay, the one thing about the single li-on chargers is the battery doesn't snap in solidly, it has to hang just right to charge.
