the cams in stores are security cams. there are signs at the store that say that the premises are monitored. same with any school ive been to that has cams.

and as far as i understand, nanny cams are allowed because people have the right to monitor their own home. Any guest of the home understands they are in someone else's house with someone else's stuff. Try putting nanny cams in your neighbors' house.

Most video recordings are legal with or without consent. There are very few laws which prohibit video recording of any kind, but there are laws in some areas dealing with areas of expected privacy.

Generally, it is perfectly legal to videotape or photograph any person and anything while on public property, except:

You cannot take pictures of areas that are usually considered private such as bedrooms, bathrooms, changing rooms, locker rooms, hotel rooms and so on
Certain public places have banned the use of cameras such as mass transit systems, courthouses, capital buildings, secured government buildings, jails or prisons unless you obtain written permission
You cannot film or photograph if it interferes with police, fire, medical or emergency operations
There are also restrictions on videotaping and photographing on private property:

If the private property is open to the public, such as retail stores, private stadiums or tourist areas, filming may be allowed unless there are signs posted that expressly forbid videotaping or photography
If the private property belongs to someone other than a commercial business, you had better get the property owner's permission

It is just that there is this tendency to pile on teachers for legitimate AND illegitimate reasons.

However, some people here have a knee jerk reaction and forget that America is based upon "innocent until proven guilty."

America's LEGAL SYSTEM is based on the PRESUMPTION of innocence. There is no such need to presume anything when it comes to an employer-employee relationship or when a student or anyone else forms an opinion about someone based on the evidence.

both.. What is the benefit of deleting the evidence? Why would you ever instruct someone to do that, unless you were safeguarding your own agenda? Maybe you'd answer this question (which) I already worded. If someone broke into your home.. and you had it on video. After the police seeing it would you now delete all evidence if requested? What do you think the motive would be, if the police chief asked you to do this.. and the robber you had on video was a police officer??

Were the school administrators randomly searching all cars in your school parking lot, or were they targeting the known suspects and you wanted to stay under the radar?

That's the difference btw you and me. You see voluntarily subjecting one's personal belongings to search by the authorities as "nothing to be concerned about."

I disagree. I'm concerned about the existence of the search itself, not merely whether or not I might be punished due to it.

Parking my car on school grounds would give the administrators the legal grounds to search my vehicle, regardless of the frequency or context of such a search.

The difference between you an me is that I was taught to respect authority and respect the rules that those in authority are empowered to enforce, whether it be the school administration or LEO's.....

Or the President of the United States, right?

I was also taught the difference btw "respect" and "blind obedience".
