ASUS 24X DVD Burner $17.99 FS

I need an external burner. Recommendations?

I bought this back in June. Better price, too. See attachment.

People need to stop freaking out. I have been on Windows 8 since August, when it was released to MSDN. The drive works perfectly; it is just a simple DVD burner and some O/S isn't going to change the way it works. Plus it's an ASUS, not some small Mongolian company, so you know even generic drivers would work on this thing.

Anyone saying it doesn't work on Windows 8 is either a lying Apple fan-boy or has no clue how to hook up a simple drive. Sorry if that means YOU.

If you need a good burner, get this. It's a good price. My son has one in his Win8 system, too. We both burn stuff constantly, especially .iso files.

I got him a Samsung Writemaster Model SE-S224 a long time ago and it is still working fine for him. Dad says the Manufacture date on the label is September 2009.

They don't seem to make this model any more, so all I can say is that I went cheap on this drive, and I doubt what you buy will do any worse than this one. Just go to Amazon or Newegg and get something cheap, because a couple years from now you'll have a hoverboard-3D-laser-plutonium-rod thing that will make burning DVDs seem like writing to 5 1/4" floppies.

I am using Win 7 Pro (64-bit) at my work. I have this exact burner installed on my work PC and it has worked just fine. All you guys freaking about a stupid DVD burner not working on a Win 7 machine are just being retarded. Windows uses standard ATAPI drivers so whoever started this whole freaking mess about not being Win7/8 compatible is just spreading FUD! I've never seen such retarded comments on this forum.

Reps to the OP - this is a solid burner. Very fast & reliable.

looks like i found the answer and it is windows 8 that was the problem, not the DVD drive.

Whatever is cheapest. Don't listen to anyone saying it matters. The standard for this has been around for so long that any 12 year old on the manufacturing line in China can make one of these just as good as an old Teac AudioPro 8X DVD R/W
