Philips 10W (60W eqivalent) L Prize LED bulb $14.97 Home Depot B&M only, YMMV, perhaps

FWIW, I was chatting with a customer the other day about this LED, he has them all over his house but for one reason, he works for the Rail Road, they subsidized the bulb down to $1! NOW that is a subsidy! Dunno if it can help someone save money, but.....

I have a few of the Cree 6" recessed lamps and those are good. I'm going to be trying the Cree bulbs once they ship to compare their performance to the white philips bulbs.

I have two dozen of those 6" recessed as well (not the CR6, but the one that is identical but was branded by HD) using what I am sure was a subsidized price (it was available only in some states) stacked with cash back. They were normally selling for $40 or $50 (can't remember which) each at the time, but I got them for ~$20. Now almost two years later, thrilled. Not the slightest problem with any, look great. I just wish there were some Par 38 LEDs as good for under $25. Anyone know of some? All the reputable ones I've seen are well over $25. Need to be dimmable and 2700K.

I bought a couple of these the other day for our kitchen lighting and noticed a slight buzzing from the bulbs controlled by a Lutron Maestro dimmer switch. The same bulb on a regular switch is quiet. After some online research and contacting Philips about compatible dimmers, I found this link [majorelectricsupply.com] to a list of approved dimmers for this and other Philips LED bulbs.

I bought and installed the Lutron MACL-153MW from HD but it still buzzes - not sure what the V2 designation is on the Philips document about this switch. Being in the kitchen, my wife is okay with the slight buzz since they are replacing incandescent bulbs.

I finally went out and bought one to try out last night after continuously seeing this thread on the first page. I'm very impressed. It seems to be as bright as the Ecosmart 75w (1200 lumens) I was using. I tested both by switching the bulbs back and forth, but waiting a few minutes for the cfl bulb to warm up. The led bulb does get hot but I can still use my hand to take it off after being on for around 5 hours by holding on to the three yellow panels.

Like some of the posters in this thread, I do find the led lights harsh even though it's warm 2700k. I noticed the difference immediately. Reading this thread while switching the bulbs back and forth, with cfl it's easier on the eyes while browsing. Still, I'm impressed enough that I'm going to buy some more to replace some of the cfl bulbs in the house.

"Daylight" means the color temperature is close to that of noonday sun (about 5000K). In practical terms, it will look a lot whiter than the light from incandescents which are quite yellow. For residential consumers trying to replicate the light of incandescents (2700K, a.k.a. "warm white") or halogens (up to 3000K) the daylight bulbs may look too blue. It comes down to personal preference though. In the US, most will prefer warm white, while international acceptance for 5000K is higher.

Yup - those are subsidized and the slightly updated version of the 6 inch recessed I bought a couple years ago for the same price (was actually a bit more, but coupons and cash back brought it down to $20). I got them from CT instead of RI, had them shipped. They have been awesome. The are almost (f not exactly) identical to the Cree CR6.... they contain the Cree chip, built by them, etc. Just rebranded as EcoSmart for HD.

Now I'm looking for PAR38s at 2700K that are dimmable and under $25/each, good quality and don't look weird on the face. Any suggestions?

If you can accept PAR 30's, the sku 409440 goes for $24.97 in RI market

I noticed that this bulb (L prize) is buzzing/humming and flickering on my dimmer. But this [homedepot.com] one (12.5 watt version) is fine. Anybody got an the same behavior on this bulb?
