I may do this because I'm making a large purchase at Amazon within the next few days ($3000+), but I don't have a kindle and it seems like none of the accessories would benefit me.

So these "Kindle accessories" gift cards are basically just regular Amazon gift cards? If so, then $500 for $600 worth of amazon gift cards is a great deal!

EDIT: N/m ... the extra $100 can only be used towards Kindle accessories. Still, if you spend a lot on Amazon, might as well do this and get some Kindle accessories.

I may just use the credit to get a bunch of USB power adapters; can be used for iPad too.

My Amazon account currently has a gift card balance > 500. So if I'm reading this right I should be able to purchase the $500 dollar Kindle accessory gift card using my gift card balance and then redeposit it back into my account.

Yeah, it's a regular gift card that can be used towards things you can normally buy with amazon.com gift cards. It's just branded as kindle accessories. The 20% kindle accessories promo credit that will be issued in April 2013 can only be used towards kindle accessories though.

I believe you will only get $20.

While the first line makes you think you get a flat 20%, it probably should have been worded "up to 20%) off as the promo goes on to clearly state 3 tiers both in the main verbiage and the Terms/Conditions.

It clearly states 3 tiers,
• Buy $50, get back $10
• Buy $100, get back $20
• Buy $500, get back $100

Q: How many of you folks think that the $10/$20/$100 you get back is ONLY for accessories and not a more general purpose GC?

My opinion is inline with your previous assessment that unlike what you buy today (a Kindle Accessories GC can be used for anything like "Kindle GCs found at Best Buy"), what you get in April can only be used for (relatively overpriced) Kindle Accessories themselves.

For them, I'm assuming that Kindle Accessories are a super high margin item so giving away $20 or even $100 costs them far less than if they gave away a $20 or $100 gift card.

I spend enough @ Amazon within a year that tying up $500 to make a $100GC would be a no brainer. Tying up $500 for just $100 worth of accessories, not so interesting....
