Yeah, it's definitely a cool feature, but it doesn't justify the price premium when you can get a tablet with better specs, like the Nexus 10 or Asus Transformer Infinity for roughly the same price.

The deal you posted was actually pretty solid for a new unit. Although, if you were considering one, I think a refurb. would be worth the savings. I've bought several Samsung refurbished products over the years, and they all work great.

This tablet [newegg.com] is actually re-manufactured by Samsung, plus it carries a 1 year warranty.

Generally, they look "like-New", with minimal scratches.

The major difference is the packaging. You can look at the pictures on Newegg for a closer look. But they come in a white box, instead of the retail packaging, and come with all the original accessories, etc.

I think your girlfriend wouldn't be able to tell any difference, honestly.

As for your question in the other thread about the big.LITTLE Exynos Octa processor... I wouldn't expect to see that in a tablet for a while. Probably the end of this year...or maybe 2014.

However, the Galaxy Note 2 10.1 (the successor to this model) may have already been spotted in the wild.

It's rumored to have a 1.7 GHz dual-core processor, a Super PLS 300ppi display (same one as the Nexus 10), and an updated graphics processor. As for a release date.... nothing has been reported.

I picked up the 10.1 note a few weeks ago during the costco coupon. In comparing with the iPad2 that I also have at home - I really do love the build quality of the samsung and its quad-core is fast but...the cost doesn't really justify the other features.

The resolution isn't that great and is apparent when watching movies on a flight. The S pen fell short of expectation - trying to take notes during office meetings and its really not fine enough to write legibly. Try also using its camera to take a picture of a whiteboard 3 feet away to embed into your S note during a meeting, its not even clear enough to make out...

Using the S pen for Adobe touch, you can cut/trim well and use large brush strokes, but again if you try any thin lines with a fine tip...well its not accurate at all. The S pen is only slightly better than traditional stylus.

I was really disappointed that the S pen is insufficient for taking notes..on a tablet that's called Note. Back to using swiftkey for meetings.

I absolutely HATED taking notes with a regular stylus--clunky, huge, not clear at all.

Of course, this is just my take with it, but if you're hedging, at least go to a store and see if you like it because I was shocked at how good it is.

I bought the Note 10.1 from Costco. I'd prefer to get the Nexus 10 but I needed a proper digitizer pen for drawing and the Note fits the bill since it's Wacom technology and comes with Photoshop Touch. Not to mention, it's on Jellybean (4.1.2)

I played mostly with Photoshop Touch and just with that experience, I thought the tablet was pretty underwhelming. I was wrong and it was just Photoshop being a grievance. Photoshop Touch is just not meant for drawing. Pen strokes are jagged, the program doesn't respond sometimes, and there are very few options. Some shortcomings to note that happens across the board is that your palm will interfere whenever you're writing or drawing, there is also slight pen lag and it's more noticeable with resource-heavy apps like Photoshop.

With that said, I'm actually pretty happy with this tablet. Once you readjust how you write, the tablet starts to shine. It's got great handwriting recognition and you can write down mathematical functions/equations to look up instantly in Wolfram.
As for drawing and art purposes, you MUST get Sketchbook Pro [google.com] for this tablet (or any tablet for that matter). Much more intuitive than Photoshop Touch, and the strokes flow more naturally. Also has an option to disable touch from hands while you're working with the pen--so your palm no longer interferes, such a boon! Now if only the OS itself has option for that...

It's not the "best" tablet out in the market, but color me impressed.
