As a new-comer to photography, I have narrowed down my prospective cameras to the following DSLRs:
Canon T4i, Sony a57, Nikon D5100 For prospective lenses, I was thinking of picking up a 50mm 1.8 to start with along with whatever kit lens the camera comes with. Will mostly be using this for my 5month old daughter so powerful zoom lenses aren't really necessary for me yet. Of the above choices, does anyone have any feedback on the pros and cons of either? Should I start looking at more compact cameras like an NEX-5N or Panny G5? Trying to keep my budget in the $600-$800 range. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

For a more experienced shooter who manually adjusts settings and uses post processing software, all the models you've mentioned are similarly capable. Also, the 18-135 has great sharpness and bokeh, so I'd wait to try it out before buying more lenses. Most amateurs use a single lens for the life of their camera regardless of how many they actually own. |

I ask because I see a lot of people wanting to DSLR video, and not realizing that it's actually a huge pain to deal with unless you need the look it gives. Most people just wanting to capture family memories or travel stuff would be better suited with another option (like a camcorder) |

I usually see this camera comes with the 18-55mm EF-S IS II Lens, and this deal is bundled with the 18-135 STM lens. What are the main differences between the two lenses? If I get the latter one, does that mean I won't need to buy the 18-55mm EF-S IS II Lens separately?
