Just call your local Pep Boys to see if they have two exact oil filter and give them the "buy 1 get 1 free 1 coupon" when you check out. Peace, San Marino

If you want to extend the OCI you'll need to get a couple of UOAs done to see exactly what is happening with the oil and how much life it has left. If an oil change costs ~$30 ever 5k miles and an analysis is $20, if you could potentially extend that OCI safety to just 7500, after two changes at the extended interval you have safely started saving yourself money.

Once you open up this optimization using UOA, you better know exactly what you're doing. Because if you don't, you'll waste money by, either, doing UOA which doesn't tell you what you need or you can't interpret correctly, or by shelling out for a new car sooner than you would otherwise. The main issue with UOA is that you don't know what the tolerances for a particular engine are. Let's say that you get a reading of a particular contaminant - X (for example). How do you know if you're within acceptable range for factory spec, or not? |

Car manufacturers put the same engine in many different models and even share engines between each other. Unless you have a brand new engine, quite a few other people have submitted UOAs to Blackstone to establish a baseline of acceptability. Our VW Jetta TDI recommends a 10k mile change interval of a 5w-30 that meets VW spec. Well, it's known that if you use that weight oil, regardless of specifications, that the camshaft lobes will wear out prematurely. So, in their infinite wisdom, the almighty Germans got the specs horribly wrong. Only after the community established a baseline through UOAs has it been determines that VW is completely wrong. The chemists at the lab are some smart cookies. They'll explain everything to you and, based on TBN, give you an approximation of how long the oil has left before it becomes unusable. Honestly though, most people will be fine just following the manufacturer's recommendations. Unfortunately, as with the Jetta TDI, some people are looking at a possible engine replacement before 100k miles if they listen to the manufacturer. |

If you have real data like that. Why not look for a class action lawyer?
If you have real statistical data, you should be able to tell when and where and how likely. |

If they refused, threaten them to shop at Autozone or O'Reilly or something. The coupon is still valid until 3/31/2013. |
