ea4500 has dlna and is a more powerful unit. imo it's worth $20. the only ea router that will most likely have third party firmware in the future is the ea6500, but I don't think any are available yet. if the stock 'classic' firmware on ea4500 is similar the old firmware on the e2500 (etc.), it's not bad at all.

The short story is that the (EA3500) design is very much like the E4200v2 / E4500, with half the RAM and flash, a slower processor and two stream vs. three stream N on the 2.4 GHz radio.

Can I bridge my e3000 with the ea4500?

Pulled the trigger on EA4500. This will most likely be the last router made by Cicso/Linksys before the Belkin buyout that will turn Linksys brand to junk. Taking a chance at a refurbished product so I'm hoping for good luck.

I'm not too worried with DDRWT or Tomatoes. I had it for my Linksys G routers but since I'm not a power user, I never did anything to it. Since upgrading to E3000, I used stock firmware and it works just fine.

If you can wait, there will probably be even better deals I'm guessing. This looks like the start of a series of sales to clear inventory for the sell to Belkin.

ETA - Don't forget Refurbished AE3000 [linksys.com] Adapter if you need one or two. $15 with coupon.

Stability is something that third party firmwares can also provide in addition to any 'power user' features.

Many poor reviews on these Linksys routers seem to deal with stability/connection issues. I considered one as a backup but the no third party firmware makes it a no go for me personally even at a decently discounted price.

Is there any specific advantage towards having a faster processor and more RAM?

The EA3500 is the heir apparent to the E3200. The E3200 is the heir apparent to the E3000. So that being said, the design concepts are the same but they've boosted the performance (processor, ram, design) to make it a stronger router. It should have more range that the E3000 but not a great deal more.

My needs are simple, and the reviews are quite good, so I went with the EA3500. The cost out the door, including $3.36 CA tax, was $45.35. Excellent deal.

Not with the default firmware of the e3000. Got to load on something like Tomato or DD-WRT to set up a wireless bridge. Fortunately you can set up the EA4500 into bridge mode as an access point.

If you have a good firmware to maximize the hardware, then No. More always helps but if the software that works with the hardware doesn't get the most out of the hardware then the hardware is only skimming water instead of diving in full.
