PSN is a mess. Why can't they figure out how to do things without having to take all their services down for maintenance. Xbox Live is hardly every taken down and I don't remember Steam ever being down for maintenance. I'm not sure about Nintendo since I don't think many would miss it. Not like it does anything other than sell you games that are locked to the device...

after the hack Sony seems to be very careful with their maintenance.

I played the game, enjoyed the heck out of it, and sold my PSP. I guess it's time for me to buy a PS Vita just to get the free game. ...so if anyone wants a used PS Vita in about 2 weeks at half the market price (gently used)...

Yes you can (on PS3) but there is no need. You can "purchase" any free PS+ content and it will be forever tied to your account. You don't need to download it: even if it becomes not free again it will show that you own it and you can play it if you are current PS+ member.
