I had the Pioneer VSX-1022 I brought it from Best Buy for $250 after a price match but I could never get to sound better than average. I bought the Marantz NR1402 5.1 50 watts receiver on clearance for $150 strictly for resale but I decided hook it up to give it a test run before I sold it and it totally blew away the Pioneer with it's superior sound I returned the Pioneer a week later. I'm currently auditioning the Yamaha RX-V673 that I got from Fry's for $400 last week and it also sounds superior to the Pioneer by a wide margin. Free is always a good deal

OK guys thanks for the info...I think I will wait to see if the RX-V673 goes on sale. I really like the idea of the upconversion and the single HDMI cable to my LCD. I am still trying to figure out how the "switching" is done, I cannot figure out if it is automatic with HDMI and analog or just HDMI. It would be nice not to have to manually change inputs on the receiver ever. The only unit I have left that is not HDMI is my WII.

Isn't it the same thing? The sound from my tv would be coming out of the receiver. I'm guessing these network receivers are for people without smart tv's in the room, or people who don't want their tv on when streaming music. For a home theatre setup, it just seems like the network functions of these entry level receivers are very archaic. I feel like I would end up buying a new receiver in 2 or 3 years if I was relying on network features. Anyone here with a late model smart tv that actually streams music with their receiver? What's the benefit? Last edited by mgman; 03-07-2013 at 07:31 PM.. |
