(I'm not trying to beat a dead horse. I just don't want to buy a receiver and later wish it had an ethernet port.) Last edited by mgman; 03-07-2013 at 07:59 PM.. |

I'm not trying to make a case either way. But let's think about it. You could have a smart tv networked, Blu-ray networked, Media Player networked, HTPC networked, ect. Why would you want to control network audio with the silly interface of these receivers? (unless it's a standalone music application) |

Guy s - I need to buy speakers for this too. But it has been probably 20 years since I bought a receiver.
What is the impedance on this Yamaha? Need to match with speakers before I buy, dont I? Or is that all old stuff we used to worry about but not anymore!!! I am Dustbin. Hear me ROAR!!. |

Got this receiver yesterday to test against my onkyo 509. I hooked it up and noticed that the sound wasn't as good....it sounded muffled compared to the onkyo. I tried adjusting all the settings and I just couldn't get it to sound as good. Don't get me wrong it still sounded great just not as good. Too bad since I really wanted AirPlay, the awesome iphone app, and the reliability. Ill stick to my onkyo this one is going back.

Like, you know, listening to music from your iPad on a pair of outdoor speakers in your backyard that are wired as "zone b" on your receiver while your family is inside using the same receiver to watch a blu ray Trust me man I got a Yamaha aventage and it is the bees f***ing knees. It's like why would anyone need a smart tv if they have a ps3 or a PC hooked up? It's all preference. But...... having a deluxe hard wired advanced AV receiver...... Priceless |

Well, I'll probably go with a network receiver just because of the minimal difference in price. Your analogy sounds cool, but this thread is about an entry level network receiver without zone B. I'll probably end up leaving the Ethernet port unplugged and using my tv/htpc/phone to do any streaming. These network receivers have a long way to go for streaming technology, not to mention the ridiculously large form factor. |
