Lenovo G780 17.3" Laptop Core i7 8gig 1tb GT635 $679.99 + FS

Can anyone tell me whether this is worth it to get? I need a laptop with 17" (1080 is not required since it's for my parents who have bad vision). Gaming capabilities is always nice in case I ever need to use it. Is there any comparably priced ones for better less or is this a decent bang for buck?

I see some of these comments saying it was around for cheaper before, but should I wait for that deal again or should I pull the trigger?

IF 17" is the only real requirement there are cheaper options. But if your looking for a good bang for your buck thats a 17" then this is a great buy if your going to be doing a lot of gaming on it.

If your not going to be doing a lot of gaming but will once in ahwile this is $100 cheaper. You lose out on the i7 cause you get a i5, and the 635 is a 7550m. You do get the bigger 1080 screen rez though.

Agrees with your assessments but overall that speed will not be noticeable when it comes to how the graphics render. It will be noticeable in the program that is loaded that requires the graphics to be rendered. I agree that slower CPU and faster GPU is typically more laggy than a faster CPU at the application level. As far as the graphics are concerned, the performance will be more noticeable with an APU as opposed to a dedicated GPU. Intel HD 4000 graphics will still be limited regardless of the CPU that it is integrated into and will not keep up with a higher end dedicated laptop GPU.

My laptop has a GT 650M and a Core i7 3610QM and yes, with the proper drivers and video software suite loaded, you can choose which graphics engine to use in the Nvidia control panel or you can right click on an icon and choose which graphics engine to render with and it will give you the options available (HD 4000 or the graphics card). I usually just keep the Nividia control panel set to use the dedicated graphics card and don't toggle back and forth.

Considered both and took HP over either.

hp is too hot imo

Should have got the Dell Inspiron 17R SE. I got one from Dell Outlet, and it has 2 HD bays with a dedicated video card, 1080p, backlit keyboard for about $719 OTD
