With NJ taxes it comes to $183.

TigerDirect has it for $179 (shipped to NJ, but no state tax withheld).

Seems to me the prices on 'ac' routers should drop as competition builds, so despite my nerdly cravings for this hottie I'm going to wait and see what another 6 months brings.

That said, I'd be buying this today if my current router would be so kind as to fail.

Decent price for the router by itself (I know there have been better deals, but this is here and now). For those of you on the fence, I live in a 2-story 2000 sqft house and this router is in beast mode. I get a solid full signal on either the 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz bands, and the wireless-AC is more than sufficient for peer-to-peer applications and file transferring. Just be sure you load the most current firmware (3.0.0.4.270) before you get started and enable the enhanced interference feature on the 2.4Ghz band and you will not believe how well this router functions. For reference, I upgraded to this router from a Cisco E2000 router that I now use as a wireless-to-wired bridge and the whole system works flawlessly. This ASUS is one of the best routers I have ever owned. The ONLY drawback is that the USB ports are 2.0, but that is negligible compared to what you gain in terms of stability and performance. Just wanted to give my $2 food stamp. Happy Slickdealing!

Could not find it on the Tiger Direct website so went with Newegg. Came to $183.81 after taxes. Ordered it late, but if I order it early enough it shows up the next day up here in central coast of CA.

I'm a little nervous about upgrading the firmware after reading horror stories of it being bricked. Did you download the firmware first and manually install it? Or did you do the OTA?

Does anyone have a slick deal on 802.11AC WLANcards?

Funny you should ask...I had downloaded each of the previous firmware versions I had installed, but decided to try doing it on the last update using the OTA utility in the web-based utility. The OTA download caused the router to stop responding and go into "recovery mode" which rendered it useless. Using the utilities installed on the disc that came with the router, I was able to get it out of this mode and load the downloaded firmware with absolutely no problem whatsoever. Don't use the OTA function and you will be fine.
