Its an Iphone without the outrageous data plan. its perfect for kids/teen. Im not paying $30/month for a data plan for a teenager. I activate my hotspot on my s3 and they are online about anywhere. Its the best device out there for this stuff.

EDIT: I googled the product number, punched it in on the link and changed page numbers to be able to sort through the inventory. Not a fast solution but I have seen some 5's so far in the inventory. I still kept the affiliate info at the end so this link at slickdeals gets credit.

Just an FYI - Apple deliberately obsoletes these things.

I have a 2nd Generation iTouch that is about 3 years old. Apple stopped releasing iOS updates for this generation, and there are now many apps that are incompatible with the device.

While I would expect apps that use hardware (e.g. camera) that is not on the 2nd Gen iTouch to be incompatible, and I would not expect to be able to play any CPU-intensive games, I did not expect that even simple things like kids e-books would be incompatible.

I bought a simple kids e-book from iTunes last week, which claimed to work on iTouches. It would not even install. After screwing around for awhile trying to figure out why, I went back to the product description and the only thing I could find was that it required the latest iOS. A quick Google search shows that many people are disappointed that new apps are incompatible with their older devices.

Also, I found that there are many people who updated their apps, wrongly assuming that the updates would be compatible with their devices. These apps simply disappeared from their iTouches. iTunes does not provide any warning that these updates are incompatible with your device.

Apps that are not updated are not affected, and so far, I can still play movies and music. Just be very careful to never hit the "update all" button.

I ended up going to Apples refurbished Outlet on eBay. They sell the same iPod model refurbished on Apple for 209 but its on sale through ebay for 179. I rather have the piece of mind of it being refurbished by Apple with the warranty then the unknown of where cowbooms products have been.

OK, but the 2nd gen Touch came out in 9/2008. 4.5 years ago.

The iPhone 3GS (June 2009) runs iOS6. Apple does a pretty good job of trying to stretch the life.
